After Norway, the UK could be next to tackle the issue of unrealistic and harmful beauty standards. The Health and Social Care Committee found that more and more people suffer from body dysmorphia while social media and its ads are largely unregulated. As a result, the UK law could soon require ads to clearly label if there are any photoshopped bodies in them.
Quick grab your camera, the UK’s starry skies are the clearest they’ve been for ten years
Great news for any UK based astrophotographers, or indeed for anyone travelling to the UK who wants to photograph the night sky. The night sky over Great Britain is currently the least polluted light-wise than it’s been since 2011, according to a recent survey.
The survey was carried out by countryside charity CPRE which has been measuring light pollution for the past ten years. Amounts peaked prior to the covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and then subsequently dropped, as you might expect. However, light pollution levels haven’t yet returned to those pre-pandemic levels.
British photojournalist arrested for doing his job and covering a story
Photojournalist Andy Aitchison (46) was recently arrested after photographing protests at Napier Barracks in Folkestone, UK. He was reportedly arrested on suspicion of criminal damage for taking photos. In other words – for doing his job. He believes it’s censorship, and some serious concerns have been raised about media freedom.

Nikon UK has announced some changes due to Brexit. The company has temporarily stopped all orders, and it’s possible that your orders will be delayed even if you placed them earlier.
Police in the UK will soon be able to ground and seize drones from pilots
On January 27th, the British parliament heard and debated a bill (for the second time) which gives police and prison authorities more powers to be able to deal with what they see as problem drones. Officially, this means drones that they believe are posing a public safety risk or are flying illegally.
The bill is aimed at those flying around no-fly zones, flying too close to people and buildings and illegal commercial operations. The prison system will also likely welcome the new power, as it will help them to minimise drone-delivered contraband.
Samsung Confirms It Will Kill Off Its Camera Business in the UK
In September, Samsung was rumored to be exiting the camera market due to lack of demand.
At that point we had very little information to work with, but little by little, the rumor has rolled into full out reality, with Samsung since announcing it was discontinuing sales in Germany.
