A trail camera in Arizona caught an animal in the act that would give Pepé Le Pew a run for his money. At first glance, it’s not obvious what we are looking at. But on closer inspection, you can see that it’s actually a skunk doing a handstand.

The National Park Service (NPS) shared the astonishing clip of the acrobatics on their Facebook page. Apparently, it’s a spotted skunk engaging in normal skunk behaviour and was shot on a trail cam in Saguaro National Park, Arizona.

That’s exactly what happened last week when viewers of a bear cam in Alaska’s Katmai National Park helped a lost hiker who wandered into the frame. The hiker stumbled in front of the lens and appeared to mouth the words “help me” and “lost.”

They say it’s raining cats and dogs but raining ducks is not something you expect to see on a walk in the woods. A remote camera installation positioned by the Minnesota Fish and Wildlife Agency recently unveiled such an astonishing spectacle as a group of wood ducklings plummeted from the skies.

The woodland scene comes to life with a series of gentle thuds as the undergrowth shivers under the impact of the cascading ducklings. The ducks then quickly regroup and follow Mama Duck off into the undergrowth. The ducklings aren’t easy to spot at first, but they are unmistakable once you know where to look.

A couple based in Connecticut, USA, are claiming that the government has illegally spied on them and their property via a bear with a camera. Yes, you did read that correctly. The couple has accused the state of fixing a camera to a wandering bear in order to film the goings on on their property.

Mark and Carol Brault have filed an injunction against the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. Apparently the bear frequently visits the couple’s 117-acre property and was spotted wearing a device.

The impact of wildfires on the Australian outback and wildlife was devasting. The 2019-2020 season was particularly bad, causing unprecedented harm and affecting over 3 billion animals. Of course, it takes time for the environment to recover from such an event, and conservationists are monitoring the recovery via AI technology and a network of cameras.

Seven million photos from around 1,100 sensor-activated cameras in eight bushfire-affected areas across Australia were collected and analysed. The project is a collaboration between the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Conservation International, and local land managers.

Baby bears are just as curious as human toddlers, it seems. They love to climb and explore their surroundings, and if a trail cam gets in the way, well, there’s no reason not to investigate it.

Photographer and videographer Daniel Elster found out the hard way recently when he managed to capture a video of a couple of inquisitive bear cubs using his trail camera as a climbing frame.
