Canon confirms that they do not consider EOS R3 to be a “flagship” camera

Well, it might cost $6,000 and have a feature set that blows the Canon EOS 1DX Mark III away in most respects but apparently, the Canon EOS R3 isn’t classed as a flagship model. In an interview with Canon’s David Parry at The Photography Show in England last week, it was revealed that Canon doesn’t consider the EOS R3 to be a flagship camera mainly because it doesn’t have the durability of the 1DX series.

Sure, the EOS R3 might contain a lot of features similar to the 1DX Mark III, be targeted towards a similar target market, and even be much better in many ways, but nope, not a flagship. All this despite the fact that it’s currently Canon’s most expensive RF mount camera, with a price on par with former flagship DSLRs from both Canon and Nikon.
