Tamron has today announced their new 150-500mm f/5-6.7 Di III VC VXD lens for full-frame Sony E mount mirrorless cameras. This is the company’s first ultra-telephoto zoom lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras that reaches a 500mm focal length.

As the name suggests, it features Tamron’s Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive (VXD) linear motor for “excellent quietness and agile performance” as well as Tamron’s Vibration Compensation (VC) for “high-level image stabilisation” when shooting handheld.

Fuji reported to be working on XF 150-600mm super-telephoto zoom lens

Fuji’s mirrorless lineup has been around for long enough now that the lens lineup is pretty well fleshed out. Despite the lack of 3rd party manufacturers (although Sigma’s rumoured to be working on it), Fuji’s managed to do quite well on its own to meet the needs of their customers. But there are some gaps.

Fuji only has one super-telephoto zoom (the XF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6) and no really long primes. According to a report on FujiRumors, though, it seems that Fuji’s working on another long super-telephoto zoom, that’ll offer a focal length range of 150-500mm. This would provide a similar field of view on Fuji cameras to that of a 225-750mm focal length range on a full-frame body.

After announcing only the development, and after some leaked specs, Tamron 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD is now finally here. It’s a telephoto zoom made for Sony full frame cameras, but it’s pretty compact for the lens of its range. It’s pretty cheap too, with the price tag of $549. So, let’s see what it brings to the table.

I’m a big fan of cheap lenses. I don’t care even care if they mostly suck. Sometimes, a really cheap terrible lens can offer you exactly the look you’re going for – and it can get you there much more quickly than trying to degrade your image manually in post. But in this case…

Tommy, Stephen and Mitchell at TMS Productions decided to order some cheap filmmaking gear from Wish to see how well it actually worked. They got a cheap “4K” action camera and a 420-800mm f/8.3-16 telephoto zoom lens. So, why does the thumbnail say 3200mm? well, they bought a couple of cheap 2x teleconverters, too.

On 7 April we had this year’s second supermoon, a so-called Pink Moon. It’s a real treat for photographers, and Ilja Kagan managed to get some stunning shots. He used his crop sensor camera, a second-hand telephoto lens and two teleconverters, ending up with a whopping a 3600mm equivalent focal length. We chatted with Ilja a bit about his process and he kindly shared the images and some details with us.

Well, if Sony are introducing a new Alpha A9 camera aimed at sports and wildlife shooters, you just know they’re going to announce a lens to go with it. And that they have, with the new FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6GM OSS lens.

It’s a full frame lens, featuring a double linear motor and Direct Drive Super Sonic wave Motor to keep it quick, accurate and quiet. Advantageous for both sports, wildlife, and video shooting. Sony claim it has “corner to corner” sharpness. Although, on a variable aperture zoom, I’ll wait until I can see the results for myself.
