How I photographed Goetheanum in Switzerland, a masterpiece of modern architecture

An architectural photo series of the Goetheanum building in Dornach, Switzerland.

The Goetheanum is the world center for the anthroposophical movement. The building was designed by Rudolf Steiner and named after Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. It includes two performance halls with 1500 seats, a gallery and lecture spaces, a library, a bookstore, and administrative spaces for the Anthroposophical Society.

The Blue Room is an epic Speedride through a natural ice tunnel

Speed riding is a terrifying combination of freestyle skiing and paragliding. Described by those who participate as “staggeringly difficult and dangerous as hell“, it’s very impressive to watch. When Swiss speedriding pioneer and Olympic snowboarding medalist, Ueli Kestenholz discovered a massive natural ice tunnel, he knew he had to go through it. So, he contacted photographer Marc Weiler.

An insane location, 3,000m (around 10,000ft) above sea level in the snow and ice. The shoot presented a rather unique set of challenges for Marc. He needed to pack as light as possible, but have plenty of power and speed to be able to capture both inside the tunnel with the outside sky. With a pack that weighed 20kg, it can’t have been easy, but well worth it from looking at the results.

Sex offending suspects in Switzerland will have their pixelated photos published… And then unpixelated…

Swiss police came up with a new, and highly controversial, plan to get suspects to turn themselves in.

According to Ha’aretz newspaper, the police will release a pixelated photo of suspects to the media, along with a message warning that unless they turn themselves in within a week, unpixelated photos will be published and the public will be asked to identify them.

As you can imagine, the new policy is said to cause quite a stir among politicians and lawyers.
