Chase scenes have been a staple in movies for almost as long as movies have existed. And boy have they changed over the years! Car chase scenes from the 1920s look practically comical now, yet were at the pinnacle of on-screen drama back in their day. With Fast & Furious 9 set to hit our screens this year, Insider decided to take a look at how they’ve evolved over the last 100 years.

From 1924’s Sherlock Junior, through Bullitt, The French Connection, Ronin, Drive and more, through to the latest Fast & Furious movies, it covers a lot of ground in not only how the filming of the scenes has evolved, but how new technological innovation has allowed them to kick things up a notch every so often.

Stunt people and Hollywood actors are making fight videos from home and they’re amazing

A couple of weeks ago, I stumbled across a video on Facebook by the people at Campus Univers Cascades in France, an educational centre specialised in training stunt techniques for cinema and TV. It shows a bunch of stuntmen and women having a virtual fight from their respective homes, and the final result is both brilliant and hilarious.

With most movie and TV sets around the world shut down due to the coronavirus, it’s a great and fun way for them to keep showing off their talents. But this isn’t the only one! It seems that the #cucchallenge is taking off in a big way, with even Hollywood actors getting in on the action!

Using two planes as light stands while shooting them with a third plane with a Nikon D5

I know that many are using VALs (Voice Activated Light stands) for moving strobes around, but this is the first time I am seeing a Plane Carried Light stand. Prague-based photographer Dan Vojtech (previously) did just that. Dan collaborated with the Flying Bulls aerobatic group. But he did better than going on a plane along side the pilot and shoot, he also convinced two of the pilots to carry strobes in their back sits, and act as light stands.

Actually, kind of a trivial request. The strobes were pointing upwards and Dan had one of the planes fly upside down, so they will light each other.

Dan shot some “trivial images” as well as some “multiple exposure” sequences, all with the new Nikon D5.

In the upcoming installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise, which hits theaters at the end of the month, Tom gave his stunt double the proverbial finger and decided to risk his own life to accurately play his character.

In this video, uploaded by GoPro, viewers get a cool behind-the-scenes view of some of the latest movie’s stunts.

A voice over by Jack Gill, Furious 7 stunt coordinator, talks more about the stunt team’s motivation than any real information, but audio has never been the reason people watch action movies anyway.
