How I transformed a human into AAYLA SECURA on a low budget

With an athletic build, an exotic beauty, and blue skin, Aayla Secura stood out among the many faces of the Jedi ranks. I invited Fawlkes Forge Cosplay to the studio to create some cool images as she portrays Aayla perfectly. I asked her how and why she started cosplaying. Here is what she had to say.

Having always loved dressing up, be it in costumes for amateur theatre productions or Halloween, I was so happy when Cosplay became a wider part of modern culture. I love being able to become a different person for a few hours and see the faces of people I interact with. I especially love seeing children’s faces when they actually believe I am the real character. It is also a massive boost to be part of a group of like-minded individuals who enjoy raising money for charity and generally being geeky together. What more could you ask for than to raise money for a good cause whilst doing something you love.

Ever since the release of the first Deadpool trailer I knew I wanted to do a photo-shoot based on this character. The personality of this character leaves me with endless possibilities, from badass attitude to total irreverent behavior.

First step was to source a cosplayer with a badass costume. I’ve been searching for a while and finally came across DaddyDeadpool.UK Cosplay. As soon as I saw pictures of him on Facebook I messaged him. Very quickly he messaged me back and agreed to organize a photo-shoot. YES! We created a mood board (Collection of example images) prior to the shoot. Surfing the net, looking for Deadpool images, I noticed a lot of Deadpool & Harley Quinn fan art. This gave me a few more options to add to this epic photo-shoot. I came across Olivia Ward  who cosplays a pretty awesome Suicide Squad Harley Quinn. I messaged her asking if she would like to tag along and she agreed. 2 x YES!

What started off as a bit of fun and a favour for a family member ended up here on the DIYP blog! Awesome!

Month’s prior to the wedding I was asked by my sister in law to photograph her wedding. As I’m not a wedding photographer at all, I wasn’t so sure about it. I had a think and decided to give it a go. As I was (besides being the photographer) a guest at the wedding and they didn’t have massive demands, I was pretty cool about it.

Both bride & groom are Star Wars geeks so I had the idea of creating a Star Wars themed wedding image for them. Something different… I’m a fan of mood boards and planning, and that’s what I did for this wedding. Having checked out PixelSquid before, I knew that using their Star Wars objects and characters was the way forward.
