Korean lunar orbiter shares mysterious black-and-white photos of Earth and Moon

The Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter (KPLO), officially Danuri, reached the Moon’s orbit in December 2022. It has returned its very first images of our planet and its natural satellite, and Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) recently published them for the world to see.

While they show the same planet, the photos are nothing like the famous Blue Marble. They’re black and white, showing our planet in a different, more mysterious light. It even looks a bit eerie!

Olympus is (for real this time) shutting down its camera business in Korea

Olympus has announced that it is withdrawing from the camera business in South Korea due to “mostly” low camera sales volume, according to a report from The Korea Times. In a statement, Olympus Korea has said that it will “cease its imaging business in Korea, effective June 30, 2020”. It’s Olympus Korea brand store in Seoul as well as its online store will also close on the same day.

DJI wants people to learn how to fly so they opened a drone school

DJI, manufacturer of the very popular series of Phantom drones, have opened up a new facility in South Korea. Named the DJI Arena, it allows drone owners to learn more about how to fly their craft. It’s a fairly substantial size, with 1,395 square metres (15,015 sq ft.) of space. It also offers an obstacle course, for those wanting to test their aerial prowess.

Their goal is to “help foster the local drone culture and play an important role in building a healthy UAV ecosystem in Korea”. A noble goal, but I do hope they consider doing this in other parts of the world, too.

Dreaming Camera Cafe in South Korea is probably the only coffee shop in the world where photographers can drink their Lattes inside a Rolleiflex.

The two-story cafe is modeled after a Rolleiflex TLR, and unless you knew better, you’d probably think it was shopped into the scene above.

The place was built and opened and now oprates by an ex-helicopter pilot in the air-force, and they have a prolific facebook page and blog (thank you google translate). If you are ever in the neighborhood (East of Seoul), they are open every day from 11:00.[Read More…]
