Sony ZV-E10

Sony reported to be announcing a new ZV line APS-C vlogging camera with a stacked BSI CMOS sensor

There has been talk for a little while that Sony is working on adding more bodies to its vlogging-based ZV line of cameras. Some expected a new camera to come in the Spring of this year, but that didn’t happen. Fresh rumours, though, seem to suggest that it might be coming in August (although they admit that date is speculation) and contain a stacked BSI CMOS sensor like the Sony A1 and A9 II.

As part of the ZV lineup, it would naturally be geared towards video. It’s reported that the camera will offer crop-free (beyond the inherent 1.5x crop of the APS-C sensor) 4K 60fps video as well as five-axis in-body image stabilisation. There isn’t much else to go on, besides that, but it makes sense for Sony to be putting more effort into APS-C again.

When you’re just getting started in photography and you know nothing about the gear, choosing which camera to buy is a challenge. There are so many out there these days and they all offer a range of unique and confusing features that might better suit a different kind of user or type of photography. So, we’ve picked nine of the best mirrorless cameras that don’t cost a fortune but will allow you to grow and develop as your photography needs expand.

We’ve set the spending limit at $1,000 for this list, although some of the cameras here are significantly less expensive than that. Do bear in mind, that with the global silicon shortage, some of these cameras may be easier to acquire than others at the moment, but we’ve tried to pick ones that still seem quite readily available where possible.

Sony has now officially announced the $698 ZV-E10 APS-C E mount vlogging camera

Yes, that’s right Sony has now officially announced the camera that we all knew was coming; The Sony ZV-E10. Unlike the Sony ZV-1, which was based around the RX100 sensor with a built-in zoom lens, the new ZV-E10 features a larger APS-C sized sensor and instead of a built-in lens, they’re swappable, thanks to the E mount on the front.

Sony’s press release suggests that the camera was designed especially for vloggers, and ones that have particularly high demands at that. It contains a 24.2-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, which is great for when you do want to shoot the occasional stills, but as a “video-first” camera, video is obviously where it excels.

Sony was expected to announce its new ZV-E10 APS-C E mount vlogging camera on July 7th but the launch event was cancelled over backlash from China due to the date – which coincided with the anniversary of the Marco Polo Bridge Incident. Well, after recovering from that little snafu, Sony has set a new announcement date. July 27th. Yup, tomorrow.

Sony had scheduled an announcement via YouTube streaming event for July 7th, but that event has now been postponed over what is rumoured to be “inappropriate” timing for people in China. July 7th marks the anniversary of the “Marco Polo Bridge Incident” in 1937. No official reason, however, has been mentioned by Sony.

The previously scheduled stream has been removed from their YouTube channel and Sony posted the simple 10-second video (above) in its place, noting the postponement. A new date has not yet been announced, although it’s expected to come soon.

Sony ZV-E10 announcement on July 7th – first photo leaked already?

Sony has scheduled an upcoming event to YouTube to begin on July 7th at 10am Eastern (3pm in the UK and 11pm JST). The event, it seems will be to announce a new camera, believed to be the Sony ZV-E10 – the follow up to their surprisingly popular ZV-1 vlogging camera released in 2020.

The main reason I think people suspect it will be the ZV-E10 is because of the similar-looking fluffy microphone shield shown in the thumbnail for the video. It was also part of their advertising for the ZV-1, so it makes sense. But it looks like somebody’s already leaked an image of the camera via Sony Alpha Rumors, a week ahead of the official announcement.
