Sony A7 has officially been marked as discontinued

Six years after it was first introduced, Sony A7 has now been marked as discontinued. The concept lives on in its later iterations, but the original A7 is no longer available through major online camera retailers.

This guy hated his Sony A7 electronic viewfinder so much that he just cut it off

I have to say, this is probably one of the more extreme camera mods I’ve seen in recent times. Sure, there were some doozies back in the days of film when everything was mechanical. But now? With all the intricacies of digital chips and circuits? Not so much beyond “How to add a microphone jack” hacks. This, though, takes it to the extreme.

One member of the Xitek forum decided he just really didn’t like his Sony A7’s electronic viewfinder. So, he got rid of it. Yup, that’s right, he removed it completely, then made a new top plate for his camera to cover the hole. Essentially, it’s now a sort of full frame version of the A6500.

What better way to test out your new Sony A7’s low light abilities than with the stunning scene Northern lights photographer, Harald Albrigtsen, was lucky enough to come across. While taking his new camera out for a test drive on Kvaløya, in Northern Norway, Albrigtsen happened across the unusual sight–and the best part, the whales came back the following night giving the photographer two days capture this footage.

One of the main selling points of the recently announced Sony alpha a7II is its 5-axis in-camera image stabilization. YouTube user Sean Ellenwood uploaded a video yesterday that shows how the Sony’s 4.5 stops of stabilization exactly work. Since stabilization is done in-camera it should also work with 3rd-party lenses.

Alex Baker is a portrait and lifestyle driven photographer based in Valencia, Spain. She works on a range of projects from commercial to fine art and has had work featured in publications such as The Daily Mail, Conde Nast Traveller and El Mundo, and has exhibited work across Europe

Dave Williams is an accomplished travel photographer, writer, and best-selling author from the UK. He is also a photography educator and published Aurora expert. Dave has traveled extensively in recent years, capturing stunning images from around the world in a modified van. His work has been featured in various publications and he has worked with notable brands such as Skoda, EE, Boeing, Huawei, Microsoft, BMW, Conde Nast, Electronic Arts, Discovery, BBC, The Guardian, ESPN, NBC, and many others.

John Aldred is a photographer with over 20 years of experience in the portrait and commercial worlds. He is based in Scotland and has been an early adopter - and occasional beta tester - of almost every digital imaging technology in that time. As well as his creative visual work, John uses 3D printing, electronics and programming to create his own photography and filmmaking tools and consults for a number of brands across the industry.

Dunja Djudjic is a multi-talented artist based in Novi Sad, Serbia. With 15 years of experience as a photographer, she specializes in capturing the beauty of nature, travel, and fine art. In addition to her photography, Dunja also expresses her creativity through writing, embroidery, and jewelry making.
