It appears that Sony has now officially discontinued the Sony A6300 and A6500 APS-C mirrorless cameras. Both bodies have disappeared from Sony’s list of interchangeable lens APS-C E mount cameras, and both bodies are also being listed as discontinued on the B&H website.

According to a new rumour, it appears that Sony is preparing to launch a new APS-C camera, though, that looks like it might replace both of the discontinued cameras along with the A6600, offering a similar form factor but with “vlogger” features from the Sony ZV-1 and Sony A7c.

The Sony A6400 is a camera of choice for many vloggers: it has good video features, a flip screen, and retails at a reasonable price. However, if you want to add an external microphone to it, you either have to rig it on the side of the camera, or it will completely block the screen when you flip it. In this video, Jason Vong will show you a simple and dirt cheap solution that will let you mount a microphone on top of your camera for cleaner sound without blocking the screen.

The recently announced Sony A6400 has created a lot of buzz, especially with the new real-time Eye AF and AF tracking. Thailand-based photographer Theera Suriyawongse was excited to buy the latest Sony camera, but he ended up buying one with the weirdest mistake ever. He got himself an A6400 – but it was “disguised” in an A6300’s body.

How to fix the Sony A6300 overheating issue

For a long while now, we’ve been using the Sony a6300 as a second camera/frugal 4k camera. The quality is superb and really, we could not be happier. Well, that’s a lie, we could be happier if the darn thing did not overheat after 15 minutes of use. OK, skipping to another story: Over the last few weeks, we’ve moved from our old fleet of Sandisk Extreme Pro cards to Prograde V60 cards.

We noticed that after the move to the UHS-II cards, the a6300 is no longer overheating. At least in out controlled studio environment. For testing, we turned the AC off (as you can probably tell) and plugged the a6300 into a Tethered Tools case relay to get uninterrupted power. The SanDisk Extreme pro lasted about 15 minutes, while the Prograde lasted the entire 30 minutes.

Now, here is the interesting thing, the Prograde V60 are USH-II cards. (you’ll see that the cards have more contacts). Once we moved to those cards, the camera stopped overheating and we can reach the “imposed” 30 minutes recording that the camera provides, effectively doubling the recording time we get from it.
