The holiday season is here, and all those good, old Christmas songs are probably already on your playlist. But why not spice it up with something new this year? Something you haven’t heard before, and it’s both festive as Jingle Bells, and a bit eerie like Carol of the Bells.

NASA turns James Webb’s first photos into ethereal music

Back in July, James Webb Space Telescope’s first photos were released. And so far, we all know that they look absolutely stunning. But how do they sound? Yes, pictures can have a sound, and it’s all thanks to sonification. NASA turned Webb’s first photos into music, and here’s what it sounds when pictures “sing” to you.

Here’s what Hubble’s Butterfly Nebula image sounds like when turned into music

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. And I believe that a piece of music can be as well. Even though we can’t hear space phenomena, we can turn its images into music, forming a new and totally mesmerizing form of art.

NASA scientists started a project called A Universe of Sound, turning space photos into pieces of music. Using the process called sonification, they imagined what the gorgeous Butterfly Nebula would sound like, and it’s like a combination of a dream and a sci-fi movie.
