It looks like smartphone makers are competing who will launch a phone with more cameras. And according to the latest reports, we’ve reached the number of six. Some sources claim that Samsung is working on Galaxy S10 which will be a six-camera phone, with two cameras in the front and four in the back.
After failing to save your photos, it looks like Google Pixel 3’s camera is affected by another bug. According to some reports, using the Pixel 3’s camera in third-party apps makes the camera crash. This includes some of the major apps such as Facebook Messenger, Instagram, Snapchat and the like.
We are witnessing the rapid improvement of smartphone cameras (and more of them being added to each new phone that gets launched). But have we come to the point where smartphone cameras can take better photos than full-frame DSLRs? Tyler Stalman tested the iPhone XR against the Canon 5D Mark IV. And when it comes to dynamic range – the smartphone sure does a pretty impressive job!
After iPhone XS was announced, some users noticed that its front camera beautifies selfies by default. The coin “BeautyGate” for this was soon coined to refer to this bug, but former Apple designer Sebastiaan de With explained that it’s a consequence of noise reduction. However, Apple has now admitted: the so-called “BeautyGate” is real, and it’s indeed a camera bug.
YouTuber Jonathan Morrison caused some stir on Instagram and Twitter on Saturday and trolled both Apple and Android users with a single photo. He posted a selfie with a caption: “Pixel 2 Portrait mode 👀 rocking the smalls hat 👀 thoughts?” Android fans rushed to praise the image quality and of course, to bash the iPhone. But a day later, Jonathan revealed the truth: the photo was actually taken with an iPhone XS.
Google Pixel 3 has been launched, and the rumors and leaks were true: despite the rising number of dual, triple and even quintuple smartphone cameras, Pixel 3 has a single camera on the back. However, it relies heavily on Google’s AI, promising to make high-quality pictures even with a single lens. And if you want a dual camera, you can have that too – it’s on the front.
It was rumored that LG was about to launch a five-camera phone. And now it’s officially out: the LG V40 Thinq is the first smartphone on the market that features five cameras in total: three on the back and two on the front.
Samsung has introduced a variable aperture in mobile photography and put a triple camera setup in a mid-range phone. The company is soon launching the next flagship model Galaxy S10, and the camera specs have just leaked. A few sources have confirmed that S10 will have a triple rear camera, so this setup is not reserved for the recently launched A7 only. Reportedly, there will also be an S10+ model which will pack five cameras in total: three on the back and two on the front.
A few months back, there were some hints that Android users may see triple camera setup even in mid-range devices. And with the launch of Samsung Galaxy A7, it looks this is coming true. The A7 is Samsung’s first triple camera phone, and it packs pretty decent photography features into an otherwise average phone.
