DPReview is shutting down in three weeks

Unless this is an April Fool joke that somebody hit publish on a little too soon, it looks like DPReview will be shutting down completely as of April 10th. An announcement published on the site today states that DPReview will be closing as part of Amazon’s annual operating plan review. According to the announcement, DPReview will remain live but read-only from April 10th for a short period of time.

The company hasn’t said how long the site will remain online in a read-only mode after user interaction is disabled, but they have said that it’ll be visible “for a limited period afterwards”. It’s a very swift ending for a website that’s been around for 25 years and become one of the largest and most respected on the Internet.

Cactus has ceased trading – but apparently they didn’t tell anybody for three months

This only seems to be coming out now, which isn’t much of a surprise as the popularity of Cactus triggers and lights has taken a bit of a beating the last few years – what with Godox bursting onto the scene covering everything from entry-level budget speedlights to honking big location strobes. So Cactus has kind of fallen by the wayside.

But Cactus, the company that failed to crowdfund the Cactus RQ250 strobe – a competitor to the Godox AD200 – a couple of years ago has now left the building. According to an email response sent out to one of their customers recently, Cactus actually ceased trading in December 2020, but they just didn’t tell anybody and nobody seemed to really notice.

The flight has ended for Lily Drone: they are shutting down and issuing refunds

Lily Drone seemed like a promising project when they started, but it didn’t go without its fair share of problems. After the production issues and delay in delivery, it seems that Lily’s developers have finally decided to give up.

They sent an email to their suppporters and customers who pre-ordered the Lily Drone, where they stated that they’re winding down the company. They promised full refund for everyone who pre-oredered the drone.

Blacks Photography is Shutting Down; Closing All 59 Stores

All 59 stores belonging to Blacks Photography will close on August 8^th, as the retailer was unable to keep itself relevant in the era of digital photography.

“Technological innovations have changed the way Canadians take and share photographs, with fewer of us using retail photo outlets,” said the parent company’s spokesperson Luiza Staniec.

Founded in 1930 and purchased by its current owner in 2009 for $28 million, Blacks Photography going out of business will leave some 485 employees, mostly in Ontario, looking for new jobs.
