Shootout

This is the most epic camera “shootout” you’ll ever see

Gear shootouts pop up on YouTube all the time, usually touting the benefits of this bit of kit over another. But this particular video doesn’t do any of that. Instead, this “shootout” is a bit more literal, with a little gang warfare using weaponised cameras and a not-entirely-unexpected twist at the end.

It was posted to the YouTube channel Mediastorm影视飓风 (which apparently means “Mediastorm film and television hurricane”, according to Google), and while the audio is Chinese, it features English subtitles. It goes on for about five minutes, but it’s just awesome. Really nicely done effects, a few good jokes and fantastic filming and editing.

I’ve heard so many times that teenagers today do nothing but staring at their phones or playing video games. Well, that’s not exactly true. There are some talented folks out there, taking stunning photos at a very early age. Jessica Kobeissi teamed up with one such kid in her latest video. She and 14-year-old photographer Hudson Matter came together for a shootout in the streets of New York City. So, let’s see how they did and who shot it better.

When buying a new lens, a common dilemma is whether to go for a native or a third-party lens. The third-party lenses are usually much cheaper, but how good are they? In this video, Jay P Morgan and Kenneth Merrill compare two standard E-mount zoom lenses for full frame Sony cameras: an $879 Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III RXD and a $2,198  Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM. Since first seeing JoeyL tape a polaroid to a projector screen in 2010, the annual Gulf Photo Plus Shootout has become the one photography event that I look most forward to each year.

The formula is a simple, yet very effective one.  Take three wildly talented photographers, set them a challenge, and then get one or two more photographers to heckle them through the entire process for our entertainment.
