This stunning image proves that early bird catches the perfect photo

A few days ago, Serbian photographer Dejan Valek shared a series of crane photos he recently took, showing cranes and a sunrise above a frozen lake. They’re not only magnificent, but they’re proof of why early bird photographers get to capture the perfect sunrise and the photo exactly as they’d imagined.

One of the photos completely stole my attention and made me return to it dozens of times. As I always love sharing photos like this, it’s what I will do in this article. I chatted with Dejan a bit about how he took this splendid photo, and he kindly shared some interesting details with DIYP.

How the pandemic forced me to shoot local and fall in love with my country again

It’s been two years since the coronavirus pandemic began. So much has happened over that time: the world has turned upside down, and so have we. Our lifestyles have changed to different extents, and each of us misses something we used to do all the time, and maybe even take for granted.

What changed most for me was traveling: I used to cross the border at least three times a year, exploring new countries or new places in the countries I’d visited before. However, travel restrictions have changed it all. The pandemic forced me to do something I’d keep postponing – exploring my own country. So, when the lockdowns were over, I started traveling across Serbia and reminded myself of how many beautiful and photo-worthy spots you can find locally. And now, I invite you to share this journey and some of my insights with me.

Serbia’s History Brought to Life in This Series of Merged Photos

Davorin Dinic, an amateur photographer from Serbia, merged old photos of his hometown with new photos he took from the exact same spot. The result is a wonderful series that emphasizes the city’s history and feels like a magical port to the past has been opened.

Touched by his work, people have offered Davorin access to their private collections of never before seen photos of the city.

Despite this being his first project since he bought his first camera just a few months ago, Davorin’s photos will be exhibited at an event organized by the local museum.

Alex Baker is a portrait and lifestyle driven photographer based in Valencia, Spain. She works on a range of projects from commercial to fine art and has had work featured in publications such as The Daily Mail, Conde Nast Traveller and El Mundo, and has exhibited work across Europe

Dave Williams is an accomplished travel photographer, writer, and best-selling author from the UK. He is also a photography educator and published Aurora expert. Dave has traveled extensively in recent years, capturing stunning images from around the world in a modified van. His work has been featured in various publications and he has worked with notable brands such as Skoda, EE, Boeing, Huawei, Microsoft, BMW, Conde Nast, Electronic Arts, Discovery, BBC, The Guardian, ESPN, NBC, and many others.

John Aldred is a photographer with over 20 years of experience in the portrait and commercial worlds. He is based in Scotland and has been an early adopter - and occasional beta tester - of almost every digital imaging technology in that time. As well as his creative visual work, John uses 3D printing, electronics and programming to create his own photography and filmmaking tools and consults for a number of brands across the industry.

Dunja Djudjic is a multi-talented artist based in Novi Sad, Serbia. With 15 years of experience as a photographer, she specializes in capturing the beauty of nature, travel, and fine art. In addition to her photography, Dunja also expresses her creativity through writing, embroidery, and jewelry making.
