Thanks to the internet and social media, we’re now exposed to art more than ever before. With Instagram and a bunch of photo-sharing apps and websites, we can see hundreds of pictures and videos every single day. All of this has a good side, of course, since it lets us have loads of inspiration only a click away. But today, we’ll discuss one of the bad sides.

In this video, Nigel Danson talks about the impostor (or imposter) syndrome he feels as a photographer. If you’re exposed to lots of amazing images you see on Instagram every day, you may feel the same. Nigel shares his experience in the video, and I’ll share some tips on how to face and overcome this crippling feeling of self-doubt and give yourself the credit you deserve.

Some people seem to have been born with self-confidence and they always seem like they know exactly what they’re doing. Sadly, I’m not among them, and maybe you aren’t either. No matter how good you are at photography, you always doubt yourself, thinking that you’ll do something wrong at the shoot.

In this video, John Branch aims to help you overcome this crippling self-doubt. He gives you three tips that will help you feel better and actually become better at your craft, making you ready for anything shooting days throw at you.

If you read the title you are probably thinking what the hell is this douche on about. This sounds like some new age bulls***. Well, welcome aboard the new age bull**** train! I’ve decided I am going to write some smaller personal articles on self-development, mindset, and routines. It’s not always easy working in this industry, and sometimes it’s nice to know we share our struggles, and experiences with thousands of other creatives…..we just don’t hear about them.

How many times have you heard, how hard can it be, all you do is press a button!

I truly wish that was the case because my life would be so much easier. People think life as a creative is all fun and games. Sitting at a desk doodling, listening to music as you edit….or jet-setting around the world to conventions, networking and partying with friends. That may be true for  1% of the industry, but for the other 99% its a game of hard work and determination. Trying to be the photographer, digital artist, marketer, social media guru and about 5 other jobs all rolled into one. If you come into this industry thinking it’s going to be easy then be prepared for a shock! It is a huge strain on your mental and physical well being!
