The bigger, the better, right? Well, not always. Photographer Robin Wong shares his take on why there is quite a bit of merit in smaller cameras and lenses. In fact, if you look at Robin’s Youtube channel, it is almost dedicated to small cameras.

And while Robin shoots a little bit of street photography, where small cameras shine, the bulk of his portfolio is Events, Stage, Wedding, and Food photography. So I got curious.

When you’re new to photography, there’s a lot of new jargon to learn and some of it can be confusing. There are also technical aspects that feel like if you don’t have a degree in advanced physics, you’ll never understand them. And there are people who think they understand them, explain them badly and either create or perpetuate myths that make terminology and techniques even more confusing.

In this video, photographer Robin Wong goes through five of the most common myths and incorrect assumptions new photographers make (and that even some more experienced users don’t really understand, yet try to explain to others) about lenses.

10 things OM Digital Solutions needs to do in order to succeed

I’ve always tried to approach the acquisition of Olympus and the formation of OM Digital Solutions with a positive outlook. Partly because I would be sad to see the Olympus legacy completely fade off into practical non-existence like Kodak and Polaroid, but also because I happen to shoot Micro Four Thirds, and it’s nice to see the format still being developed (even if I use Panasonic and not Olympus).

But in order to succeed, the new OM Digital Solutions company has a lot of challenges ahead. In this video, photographer Robin Wong talks about his thoughts on the acquisition and things that OM Digital Solutions will need to do in order to succeed in a troubled sector of a struggling camera market.

Are smartphones really to blame for declining camera sales? Or is it something else?

We often hear smartphones are to blame for the massive decline in camera sales over the last few years. And while they have no doubt played a major part for a lot of general consumers, is it really enough to see the huge drops we’ve seen?

Photographer Robin Wong isn’t so sure. He recently published the video above along with a blog post looking into other reasons why the market may be dwindling. The man may have a point.
