I think that if someone did a survey, Usain Bolt would be one of the most loved athletes in the world (actually, I am pretty sure there is such a poll somewhere). You just have to love this man, and here is another reason why.

Usain Bolt insists that anyone who wants to shoot him for an ad will do so in Jamaica. And there is some reason behind it.

Since 1932, vaunted Swiss watchmaker Omega has served as Official Timekeeper at the Olympic Games 26 times. This year at the Rio Olympics, Omega is once again providing finish line cameras to provide officials and the public with the most precise view of the athletes.

The current generation of cameras, dubbed the Scan ‘O’ Vision debuted at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. The current version, Myria, is now capable of taking 10,000 scans per second; a dramatic improvement from 2,000 sps at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. But the camera isn’t the only improvement.

The Olympic tennis court is a giant green screen and the Internet has noticed

It’s always amusing when something shown on TV includes something ripe for chroma keying. This time around, it’s the Rio 2016 men’s singles tennis final between Andy Murray and Juan Martin Del Potro.

That they were playing on a giant green screen was noticed by imgur user factionman. After this, the obvious became inevitable. I would imagine these scenarios probably weren’t going through the players’ heads at the time of the game.

The Rio camera thief got caught by the same photographer he stole from

Ok, I can only describe this as sweet irony. The thief who stole $40,000 worth of photography gear from News Corp photographer at Rio olympics was caught by the same photographer he stole from – Brett Costello.

It was not enough for the thief to steal Costello’s $40,000 gear set, and he wanted more. I am not sure if the next step is more bold or more stupid. The thief wore Costello’s media jacket, probably to get an easier pass through security.

That was a bad call as Costello identified him and called the cops while the journalist he was with kept track on the thief. And what do you know, he was headed for the the press box. Either to get a good view of the games, or more likely to snag another camera or two.

As this year’s host of the Olympic Games, it’s not a surprise that Rio currently contains so many photographers. With a lot of photographers come a lot of expensive kit. This has not escaped the notice of local criminals.

News Corp photographer Brett Costello just discovered this, when $40,000 worth of equipment went missing from right beside him. In a well planned and coordinated effort, it took only 10 seconds for his gear to vanish.

This is my fifth Olympic Games and I am always visiting the Canon Professional Services area to borrow equipment from them. And for all of those previous Olympics, they have always been very guarded about letting anyone, outside of Canon employees, go behind the scenes to see what they have in their inventory. And trust me, I have asked in the past.

Well, this year I was allowed into the back room to see the arsenal  of cameras and lenses, and it was incredible! I have a warning for all the photographers out there. The photos in this blog are going to make you salivate!

Now here’s a treasure trove many of us would love to have access to, regardless of what brand we may normally shoot. This is Getty’s arsenal for the Rio Olympics kicking off in a few days.

The Canon 1DX Mark II seems to be the clear camera of choice for this year’s games. There’s a few original 1DX thrown in for good measure. The display also sports a pair of 5DSR bodies, which appear so small in comparison that they’re almost cute.

British Diver and Olympic Bronze Medalist Tom Daley ran a brief competition on his Twitter feed recently.  The brief was simple.  Modify a photograph with the winner being chosen to become the new banner for his Twitter profile.

With 2.6 million followers, Tom had no shortage of entries, and the competition was soon hijacked by Photoshop pranksters, as was inevitable.
