REVORING

DIYP reviews the H&Y REVORING Swift

Swift…  not a word generally associated with camera filters, but H&Y Filters’ new “REVORING Swift” system recently landed on Kickstarter and seeks to change that. The REVORING is an entirely magnetic and fully modular filter system. This allows you to instantly swap filters, cameras, or other accessories. Let’s see what you get for about $219.

In the above image, the Sigma fp-L is kitted out in a cine-style rig using the REVORING Swift. Using the same REVORING Swift system  (depending on what parts you own), I can kit out the Sigma dp0 for landscapes with CPL and graduated filter.

Most of the parts are magnetic or quick-release so that I can swap them over quickly. In just a few seconds, I could have the MattBox on the Sigma dp0 and the Grad filters on the FP just by simply grabbing them off and slapping them onto the other camera.

The Revoring Swift is a magnetic filter ecosystem for both photographers and filmmakers

H&Y Filters, the company behind the Revoring magnetic filter system are releasing a new “Swift” modular magnetic filter system that they say works for both photographers and filmmakers. They even have a magnetic matte box! They’re claiming it to be a world’s first system that targets both types of user, which is probably accurate as most only seem to focus on photographers, but I think some video guys are going to need some convincing.

The system isn’t available just yet and is launching on Kickstarter later this month, but they’ve already put up the promo video for it, along with a few bits of information (not much, though). So, here’s what we know about it so far. Like I said, not much. We’ve got a rough idea of what’s included in the ecosystem, but there are no specific details yet and no prices.

Never screw again. First review of the Revoring CPL filters from H&Y

Over the years, I used optical filters quite a lot. They give me great control over the in-camera photo, so they are valuable tools. I have to admit, though, I hate that you need to screw them on and off your lens. It really takes the fun out of shooting. What if there was a better way?

The new Revoring CPL filter is a new addition to the award-winning Revoring family that debuted last year. If you have never heard of the revoring filter family before, prepare for something new and exciting. (And less prone to fingerprint smudges)

H&Y’s new REVORING Black Mist fits on any lens without step-up rings

The REVORING from H&Y filters is an interesting concept. Instead of having to buy multiple step-up rings for all your different diameter lenses to use larger screw-on filters, you just buy one “variable” diameter REVORING that fits on a whole bunch of different filter diameter lenses. And you can attach and detach it much more quickly than a standard screw-on filter, too.

The system was first launched in June of last year with a VND + CPL combo. Now the company has just announced a new Black Mist filter, available in three strengths, that you can use either on its own or magnetically attach to your existing REVORING VND+CPL filters.

The REVORING is the last step-up ring you ever need to buy for your filters

I’m a big fan of step-up rings. I buy all my circular filters in 77mm diameter (the largest diameter of all the lenses I own) and then use step-up rings to be able to use them on lenses with a smaller diameter. It’s a great approach that saves you an absolute fortune because you don’t have to buy your polarizers and variable NDs in five different sizes. You buy the largest size you need and then spend $1-2 each on step-up rings.

But this new device, the REVORING looks like it wants to be the only step up ring you’ll ever need. It’s currently launching on Kickstarter, where it’s already more than quadrupled its goal, and it’s a pretty interesting concept. Although, it’s not going to be ideal for everybody just yet.
