A Leica M3 from 1959 has been sold at auction in Sweden. The auction was held by LP Fotos Auktioner in Stockholm, where the camera was listed with a SEK 110,000 (or around $10,460) asking price.
It seems that somebody wanted this camera really badly, however. The final hammer price was a whopping SEK 1,120,000, or around $106,485.
Non-photographic lenses such as projector or spy lenses can be used for taking some stunning photos. But have you considered using a medical lens? Mathieu Stern got to test an Elicar 90mm f2.5 Macro Medical V-HQ, a relatively rare lens that was used by medical professionals in the ‘80s. And it turns out that it’s super sharp and great for close-up shots.
Well, it can be yours for $29,999 plus $155 shipping, anyway. But the shipping’s practically a bargain. We often hear about those “rare” lenses popping up on eBay and various other places, but this one does appear to actually be pretty rare. It’s a Canon 45-200mm f/2.8 (C35) prototype lens, and the seller claims it’s never been sold before in the “whole eBay selling history”.
Way back in 2015, just a couple months shy of three years ago, we told you about a pretty insane lens that went up for sale on eBay. That lens is a massive 2540mm lens used by the likes of NASA to track the Saturn V rocket launch during Apollo and other programs. Back then, it was listed for an eye-watering $33,500 and the listing has remained, unsold. Now it appears to have received a little bit of a price drop.
With a little over 15% knocked off the former price, this beauty can currently be had for a mere $28,000. According to the new listing, a buyer was found at one point, but it’s been relisted after the buyer realised he’d actually have to pay for it.
Joining the list of cool and rare photography gear for sale on eBay is a gigantic 2,540mm lens, of the kind NASA used to track the Saturn V rocket launch in the Apollo and several other programs.
Weighing in at 180 pounds, original case included, you might need a rocket of your own to lug this lens around.
The seller does not mention which footage was captured with this specific lens, but the manufacturer’s grandson told him that the Challenger Space Shuttle disaster was tracked and filmed with one of these Jonel-brand lenses.
