The H&Y 100 filter is one clever magnetic system

I’ve had the great pleasure of using a few different types of filter holder systems over the years, but this one is different. Let’s take a look at H&Y’s version of the 100mm filter holder.

I just wanted to take a note of the box art. I find it rather pleasing. Possibly as they remind me of the various Sigma boxes, I’ve had over the years. But we are not here to look at boxes, so let’s get onto what’s inside.

Alter’s new flip up Rapid Filter System claims to do away with step-up rings

Alter has spent a couple of years testing and prototyping their new Rapid Filter System (RFS). Essentially, it’s a flip-up doohicky that attaches to your camera’s filter thread on one side and your filter screws into the other. And they say it completely does away with the need for step-up rings.

It’s being launched on Kickstarter, and while I think it has some appeal in certain shooting situations, I’m not entirely sure it’s as essential as some of the hype in the embedded YouTube videos would suggest.
