360° cameras have come far in the last couple of years. I remember trying out the first version of the Ricoh Theta and thinking that it was a cool idea, but the quality and feature set just wasn’t there. When the YI 360 VR was released, offering 5.7K resolution, I felt they were finally starting to hit that point. But the tech that goes into 360° cameras has come much further since then.

But what are the top consumer picks when it comes to 360° cameras? In this video, Daniel The 360 Guy shows us his top five 360° cameras that you can get today. Daniel points out the good, the bad and the “ok” for each of the cameras. Possibly not surprisingly, there isn’t really a single “best” camera that’s good for all uses, but each has its own advantages and disadvantages over the others for different needs.

There are a number of pocketable 360° cameras out there now, like the Insta360 ONE X, Insta360 EVO, YI 360 VR, and countless others, but the resolution limit for pocketable 360° cameras seems to have been 5.7K. There are also a number of 8K cameras out there, too, but most are pretty big. Now, that’s changed with the new QooCam 8K.

You might remember the Qoocam for that funny looking twisting 4K 360° camera which also shoots 3D 180° footage. While the QooCam 8K doesn’t offer the same dual purpose, it’s a pretty small camera considering it shoots 8K. It does it with only two lenses, too, instead of the usual 4 or more. It’s also capable of shooting 30-megapixel 12-Bit RAW stills, too.

We’ve all seen an assortment of 360-degree cameras in the past few years, but I have to say that QooCam‘s design is the most intriguing. Just imagine being able to switch from 4K 360 to 3D 180 by simply twisting it? Furthermore, it also features a depth-sensing technology that allows you to refocus after taking a photo. It appears to be quite a capable for a camera that’s slightly longer than an iPhone.
