The Bumble Bulb PAR30 is a new high-end LED light in the Omni-Color range from folks at Hive Lighting. Being touted as “a cutting-edge tool for film and television production” the new light comes in a PAR30 short neck form factor with a CRI 95 and TLCI 94. It sports modular optics, with both wired and wireless DMX control, a built-in battery and a tough rugged weatherproof enclosure.

Hive says this is their most portable and affordable Omni-Color LED light and is compatible with professional or practical lamps with a standard E26/E27 socket. It uses Hive’s Omni-Color LED tech and a 7-spectrum array to create “full spectrum, high fidelity white light” with hundreds of presets that Hive says lets you imitate any light source in the world.

Nanlite has released their new PavoBulb 10C. It’s an RGBWW colour-mixing LED light designed to replace practical bulbs on-set when you need to get a little more control over how they look to camera. With the plethora of dodgy cheap consumer CCFL and LED bulbs on the market these days that people often use in their homes and businesses, these will be a welcome tool in the arsenal of filmmakers.

It is essentially Nanlite’s answer to the Aputure Accent B7C, released in September 2020, but for the Nanlite ecosystem, offering remote control through the NanLink app and a variety of other methods. It offers a CRI of 95, a TLCI of 97, over 36,000 colours with 15 customisable preset modes and a slew of other features.

If you’ve shot video, or even sometimes if you’ve shot stills, you know what a hassle practical lighting can be. It’s always too bright or too dim to easily balance with the rest of your lights for the ISO you want to shoot at. Or, it’s completely the wrong colour. So, you have to get tricky with white balance, or gel things, or have a bunch of different types of bulbs on-hand to match to other light sources.

Well, no more. Now you just need one type of bulb to match with everything. Aputure has finally launched the Accent B7c, an RGBWW colour-mixing practical LED light that lets you simulate just about any colour or brightness you’ll ever need.

When I first saw this video from The Film Look pop up in my feed, I thought it was going to be about how to simulate computer monitor light with studio lights, but it’s actually not. Here they used actual computer monitors to light the subjects to film this scene.

They did add a couple of small LED lights as well, to help light up the background and add rim lights, but it’s a very simple setup for recording a dramatically lit scene and making the most out of practical lighting (well, monitors) to light your shot.
