Have you ever thought to yourself, “I wish there was a way to learn commercial photography by listening to a ditzy fictional character make lots of mistakes?” Nope, me neither. But now we all can, thanks to this new fictional podcast called The Art of Seeing.

The podcast is the brainchild of longtime commercial photographer and educator Lee Love. It follows newbie photographer MacKenzie (Mac) as she navigates the trials and tribulations of the world of commercial photography. “Will MacKenzie Make It, or Have to Crawl Back to Her Hometown, Defeated?” the homepage asks.

Rode has announced the new Rode NT-USB+, an update of the company’s popular Rode NT-USB desktop USB microphone, released in 2014. It’s designed for voiceovers, podcasting, streaming and even singers who want to capture studio-quality sound into their computer without a bunch of expensive equipment and interfaces. And it satisfies that need easily, requiring only a single USB cable directly from the microphone to your computer.

It brings “next-generation” features over the original NT-USB, with a studio-grade condenser capsule with a tight cardioid polar pattern to minimise unwanted environmental sounds. It has an ultra-low-noise, high-gain Revolution Preamp with a 24-bit 48kHz analogue-to-digital converter and internal DSP for advanced audio processing directly within the microphone itself.

SmugMug has acquired the popular photography podcast, This Week in Photo – otherwise known as TWiP. It’s the second acquisition by the company after picking up Flickr in 2018. As well as acquiring the podcast itself, TWiP Editor in Chief Frederick Van Johnson is also joining SmugMug. He will lead content and new media while maintaining his role with TWiP to help it continue to grow and evolve.

SmugMug+Flickr VP of Marketing, Scott Kinzie says that “It’s an ideal match”, with both companies and TWiP having the goal of increasing the influence and impact of photography worldwide. TWiP was created by Frederick in 2008 as a primarily gear-focused podcast. It’s evolved since then to cover just about every topic in the photography industry.

Now that the world has spent the last couple of years stocking up on microphones, lights, new cameras and a mountain of other bits to be able to stream from home or just make our Zoom calls look and sound a bit better than our co-workers, what do we do with it now that the world has (mostly) opened back up and we’re able to start travelling again? Well, we take it with us, of course!

In this video, the team at Syrp Lab build an entire podcasting studio in a single box that lets you record or broadcast from pretty much anywhere. Based on (in?) the Manfrotto ProLight Reloader Tough-55 roller case, it’s rugged enough to deal with the usual rough handling of travel and it also fits within carry-on restrictions (although do double-check before you book) when you need to fly!

Rode has announced the new Rodecaster Pro II, the successor to 2018’s popular Rodecaster Pro live mixer aimed at live streamers and podcasters. The Rodecaster Pro II isn’t just an incremental update over the original, though. Rode says they’ve redesigned it from the ground up to create “a completely new beast” featuring ultra-low-noise, high-gain Revolution Preamps and the ability to accept instruments as well as microphones.

It has a super low input noise level of -131.5dBV and 76dB of gain at your disposal. Its APHEX audio processors have been completely overhauled and remodelled at the component-level to offer pro studio quality results in a home studio setting. Rode says that its quad-core audio engine offers more processing power than any content creation console on the market.

The death of George Floyd this May sparked protests across the USA and even internationally. These events make us reevaluate many things, including the ethics of storytelling and photography. In this week’s episode of Impact Everywhere’s podcast, Benjamin Von Wong spoke to Danielle Da Silva. She is an award-winning photographer, and a founder and CEO of Photographers Without Borders (PWB). Danielle spoke with Ben about her own experience with discrimination, and elaborated on PWB’s guidelines for ethical photography. If you’re a photojournalist, this is something you must listen. But honestly, I recommend it to everyone.

Rode’s NT-USB microphone has become one of the most popular microphones out there over the last few years (although, personally, I’m a big fan of the Podcaster). Now, though Rode has shrunk it down into the new Rode NT-USB Mini, a $99 microphone that plugs straight into your computer.

Aimed at YouTubers, podcasters and streamers, the new microphone plugs straight into your computer via the USB port. Rode says it’s been designed to provide “warmth and presence” in your audio for the most pleasing sound straight out of the microphone without any processing.
