A question I get asked a lot when I showing my portfolio is how I make images like the one above (This one is featuring the wonderful Renee Robyn, click here for a bigger version). With all the organic shapes and details in there, it seems like a non trivial edit. With this tutorial I’m going to show the basics of the effect, which should give you an insight into the creation of such images.

If you’ve been reading my stuff for a while, you know that I’m a huge proponent of getting it right in the camera. Exposure, lighting, composition– all of it. As I tell my students, Photoshop is a tool, not a crutch. A bad photo is a bad photo, and no amount of post processing is going to miraculously turn it into a good photo. A good photo can very often be improved with a few well-placed tweaks and adjustments, but it’s just as easy to kill a perfectly fine photograph by going overboard in Photoshop. Still, though, photo editing is a fact of life and I think there are certain essential Photoshop skills that every photographer should know.
A Simple And Clever Way To Remove The Bags Under The Eyes With Photoshop
Dani Diamond of Fstoppers recently shared a pretty quick and clever way to removing those dark patches you have under the eyes of your subjects.
Ignoring the commonly used patch tool, Dodge/Burn tool and Clone tool which either copy the texture as well as the color or smudging the texture altogether. Instead, Dani opts to use the curves tool which allows improving the dark tones while not affecting the texture. The entire tutorial and more examples can be found at Fstoppers.
