Photography and video conferences. Are they dead? Are they going to happen this year? Is it kind of the nail in the coffin for conferences? Because they were sliding before. Where exactly are they at? What’s going to happen and what can you expect coming in 2021 and 2022?
New York’s PhotoPlus 2021 expo has been cancelled over COVID-19 concerns
Perhaps not surprisingly, PhotoPlus 2021 has been cancelled. Originally scheduled for September 30th until October 2nd in the usual Javits Convention Centre in New York, it’s been pulled with just three weeks notice. Organisers state that this is “due to developments regarding the ongoing progression of the COVID-19 pandemic and related company-imposed travel restrictions”.
The news was just sent out to press, exhibitors and attendees via email, and they say that for exhibitors who have made deposits for the in-person event, options will be provided in the coming days. For attendees who might have already booked flight and accommodations, though, no mention has been made for those people who might have now lost their money.
PhotoPlus, the last remaining show of 2020, moves online
Well, this probably comes without a surprise. After all other 2020 events (and even some 2021 ones), PhotoPlus is now moving online, too. It’s clear now that the COVID-19 pandemic won’t go away by October, so the annual photo conference is getting a new format this year.
Olympus has pulled out of October’s PhotoPlus 2020 in New York
It probably doesn’t come as much surprise that manufacturers were going to be pulling out of October’s PhotoPlus Expo in New York, but the first official withdrawal announcement has now been made. But according to PhotoRumors, Olympus has been emailing customers and partners saying that they will not be taking part in the upcoming show.
