How to get stuff done as a photographer and be the most efficient possible

I feel seen. I mean, really, this video from Scott Chouciño could be aimed directly at me, embarrassingly. I’ve often wondered if I have undiagnosed ADHD, sometimes getting anything done and focusing on the task at hand is such a struggle. I am incredulous at how other people seem to be three times as effective at working and getting stuff done as I am.

But no matter how much a label would be useful to use as an excuse for myself (I’m not saying such a label is an excuse but in my own case it would be), I really do just have to accept that frittering my work day getting sucked down YouTube rabbit holes is less neurological and more of a lack of discipline. In this achingly honest video, Scott tells us how he sets boundaries around his work day, even to the extent that he has banned his girlfriend from visiting the studio.

Five clamps and brackets every studio shooter and strobist needs

What even is a ‘studio shooter’ today? Years ago it was a little easier to define, but due to us having tons of heavy, cumbersome lighting and cameras, we were all pretty grounded in the actual home-base of a studio. Today though, the vast majority of my own jobs are not shot in my own space. I shoot wherever I’m needed and whether that be in a home, an office, hair salon or even another hired studio, I’m always on the move.

The clamps and brackets I’m about to run though in this article are great for all types of studio shooters, and although they will be ideal for those of you who may never shoot outside of your own controlled space, many of these items will be invaluable to those of you, who like me, need to carry, assemble and breakdown their studio setups regularly in a multitude of spaces.

Shooting through prisms at home or in the studio

In this tutorial we will be going over how to create gorgeous in-camera flared effects that can add a lot of depth and interest to a simple portrait image. To do this we will be using a glass prism which can be found on any number of online retail sites. The glass prisms are generally used for school science experiments so they’re readily available and very inexpensive.

The prisms are very easy to use out on location as you simply hold them in front of the lens and shoot away. If you’re looking to use them in a studio environment though there are a few key things to bear in mind to maximise the flared effect that creates that signature look.

Urban Outfitters offers a year of full-time internship for photographers, pays $0

Urban Outfitters offered undergraduate students internships in photographic studio production and styling. The lucky ones will get a full-time position in the London office of the company for a whole year. Sounds too god to be true? It is.

The internship is unpaid for the entire time of its lasting. True, it’s not forbidden the law, but the problem is that not many students can actually afford this. Urban Outfitters would cover travel costs, though, but there’s a catch. Only those living in central London would get the paid costs. Those traveling from the suburbs would have to cover their expenses themselves.

All this raises an issue – are unpaid internship actually reserved only for the rich kids?

I Built This Miniature Photography Studio From The 1900s In Honor Of Old Photographers

I spent 9 months working on the studio using hundreds meters of wood and lots of other materials like plastic, copper, paper etc.  I built more than 100 miniature objects all designed and built according to that era.

All the objects were made from scratch.  There were lots of challenges especially when I was doing the research.  I could find only few pictures from old studios all in white and black.
