What’s in your camera bag? For me, it obviously depends on what, where and how I’m shooting. I generally have a minimum gear grab bag ready that would easily cover most situations in a pinch, but if I’m being more specialised I would definitely take my time to pack specifically for each situation. For landscape photography, I am very much aware of having to carry all of my own gear, so I try to keep it as light as possible. But again, it depends on where I’m going, the weather conditions, and how long I plan to be out for. In this video Photo Tom runs us through all his essential gear that he takes with him on his landscape adventures.
GearEye wants to be the only solution you need for tracking your equipment
Update: right on, this project is now on kickstater, get your wallets ready!
Losing equipment is one of a photographer’s biggest fears. But, it happens. You’re out on location, having a good time, you pack away your stuff and think you’ve got everything. Then you get home and realise you have to walk 90 minutes in the pitch black to go back to the location you just left to go and find a microphone (yup, happened to me last week).
GearEye aims to solve this problem by tagging and cataloguing all your equipment. It keeps track of it all, so that you don’t have to. We’ve heard promises like these before, though. The failed KitSentry project from F-Stop Gear left a sour taste. That GearEye is also being hosted on Kickstarter will make a few feel hesitant. F-Stop cited part of the problem being down to patent issues. Will GearEye face the same issue? Let’s hope not.
Thieves Steal Nearly $600k in Gear From Photography Equipment Rental LensProToGo
As long as humans are humans, humans will act like humans. Pretty redundant, but no less profound. That was made clear to LensProToGo employees who arrived at work yesterday to find a smashed window and discover that they had been robbed. Descending like vultures in the night, the thieves helped themselves to nearly $600k-worth of photography gear, presumably to support their out-of-control World of Warcraft addictions.
Got GAS?
I don’t want to infringe on anyone’s copyright, so in an abundance of caution and professional deference, I’ll just tell you what the graphic said, rather than posting it. “Phew! I have all the gear I will ever need. Said no photographer EVER.” Now, we can all sit around and have a good laugh about it, but it does merit a conversation about a terrible, insidious affliction, the very mention of which elicits vehement denial from those who fall prey to the addiction. It may not be drugs or alcohol, but it is still a societal menace affecting a frightening percentage of the world’s creative population.
That’s right. I’m talking about GAS.
