The Panasonic Lumix S5 is now capable of shooting 5.9K ProRes RAW

Panasonic recently announced that they had a bunch of new firmware updates coming for their full-frame mirrorless lineup, including their newest addition, the Panasonic S5. Of particular note was that it would allow the S5 to shoot 5.9K ProRes RAW when paired with the Atomos Ninja V. Well, now, Panasonic has released those updates and so has Atomos.

New firmware has been released today for all of Panasonic’s full-frame mirrorless cameras, including the S1, S1H, S1R and S5. They’ve also released new firmware updates for a couple of their Micro Four Thirds cameras, too, including the G9 and the G100/G110. There’s no ProRes RAW on the MFT cameras, though.

Olympus vs Panasonic – Who’s the king of Micro Four Thirds?

Micro Four Thirds occupies a strange part of the photographic world. You’ve got people who’ll never consider it purely because of the size of the sensor, regardless of what it might be able to do, and then you’ve got the other extreme that is ridiculously loyal to the format, regardless of whether they’re shooting Panasonic or Olympus.

This video from DPReview looks at two of Olympus and Panasonic’s flagship cameras, the Olympus E-M1 Mark III and the Panasonic G9 to see which deserves to be crowned king.

The Lumix S1 – My Top Camera of 2019

Here’s me, a mirrorless user for about three years now and exclusively mirrorless for the last 18 months. It stands to reason that it wasn’t going to be long before I got my hands on the Lumix S1 to put it through its paces. So, I hired one from Lenspimp and gave it a 10-day test drive.

It’s impossible to discuss this camera without making comparisons; after all, that’s what product development is all about. It’s evolution. Over ten days out and about with the Lumix S1, I built up a pretty clear picture of how this camera measures up to others in the marketplace.  It intrigued me to see the path Lumix has taken with the S1.

Leaked Panasonic GH5/GH5S/G9 firmware updates made official

It probably wasn’t much of a surprise that Panasonic was planning to release new GH5, GH5S and G9 firmware updates. Mostly because Panasonic are always releasing new firmware updates for such cameras. But what was a surprise was Panasonic finding that the announcement planned for May 30th had been leaked in Japan a couple of days ago. Now, though, Panasonic has made the firmware announcement official, with a list of what users can look forward to.

Panasonic officially announces the 60fps stills capable Lumix G9 mirrorless camera

The Panasonic Lumix G9 is now official, and it’s a little beast. While Panasonic have become a favourite for video shooters, stills photographers tend to favour Olympus when it comes to Micro Four Thirds. It’s clear, though, that Panasonic have aimed the new G9 squarely at photographers, and demanding ones at that.

The G9 shoots raw stills at up to an insane blackout-free 60 frames per second, and also offers an 80 megapixel “High Resolution” mode. 5-axis in body image stabilisation combines with lens stabilisation offering up to 6.5 stops of handshake removing goodness. It also boasts the world’s fastest autofocus speed.

First images of the new Panasonic G9 and 200mm f/2.8 lens leaked

Panasonic are expected to announce their new G9 mirrorless camera on Wednesday morning. Also expected is a new 200mm f/2.8 MFT lens announcement. It seems that, as usual, some folks can’t wait to share the promo images, though. A few images have leaked through both 43Rumors and serial leakers, Nokishita.
