The body camera footage from Clark County Sheriff’s Deputy Jake Shaw has been released showing the moment he shot New Carlisle News photographer, Andy Grimm. Grimm had left work to cover a lightning storm when he pulled over to photograph a traffic stop. Seemingly mistaking Grimm’s camera and tripod for a gun, Shaw shot at Grimm twice without warning.

The first shot grazed Grimm’s shoulder, and the second went through his torso. The bodycam footage shows the events as they took place. Don’t worry, the footage isn’t gruesome, in fact it’s so dark you can barely see a thing. But you can hear the conversation.

Shootings are covered by the media every day. What’s not so common, though, is when a news organisation is reporting that one of their own staff has been shot. In this case, New Carlisle News photographer, Andy Grimm. Grimm had left work to cover a lightning storm passing over the small town boasting a population of around 5,700 people.

While he was out, he encountered a traffic stop. He pulled over to turn his camera toward that, and while unloading his equipment from the car, he was shot by Deputy Jake Shaw of the Clark County Sheriff’s office. Reports say that one bullet struck him in the chest, while the other grazed his shoulder.

Pro tip: if you decide to rob a bank, don’t celebrate it by posting photos of the money on social media.

It seems pretty obvious, but a couple from Ohio did just that several days after robbing a bank near Columbus.

A tip through Central Ohio Crime Stoppers eventually led police to the couple, John Mogan and Ashley Duboe, and photos they posted on Facebook holding wads of money.

Ohio newspaper Toledo Blade agreed to dismiss with prejudice its federal lawsuit after the U.S. government agreed to pay a lump sum of $18,000.

The lawsuit was filed in April following a photographer and journalist for the newspaper being detained and restrained by armed military police, their cameras seized and photos deleted after snapping a few photos of a tank manufacturing plant.

“The Blade is pleased with this resolution of the crucial First Amendment issues at stake in this matter,” said Toledo Blade attorney Fritz Byers, though I can’t imagine why.

The government admitted no liability or fault and the sum it agreed to pay is “for all claims, attorney fees, and costs”.
