Nikon has officially announced the new Nikon Z30, its entry-level APS-C Z mount mirrorless camera. As the de facto replacement for the Nikon D3x00 series DSLRs, the Z30 actually offers a little more. Being targeted primarily toward video content creators and vloggers, the Z30 offers a flippy-out LCD and shoots 4K UHD video at up to 30 frames per second and 1080p at up to 120fps.

The 20.9-megapixel sensor it contains lets you shoot video for up to 125 minutes and can capture raw stills at an impressive 11 frames per second with full autofocus and exposure. For vloggers, a flippy-out touchscreen LCD lets you see yourself or your subject at all times and easily adjust your settings while the full-time video AF mode helps to keep the focus where it’s needed throughout the shot.

Nikon has now officially discontinued the D3x00 and D5x00 product lines

Nikon has reportedly sent out official notices to stores stating that the Nikon D3x00 and D5x00 series product lines are now officially discontinued. This means that the D3500 and D5600 will be the final cameras in each of the two lines adding a little more weight to the recently resurfaced rumours of an impending Nikon Z30 announcement.

The Nikon D3500 and D5600 bodies themselves were listed as discontinued on the Nikon Japan website back in January, only a few days after the Nikon D5600 was hailed as the biggest selling DSLR in Japan in 2020. But it’s been known since 2019 that these cameras would not be getting replaced by new DSLR models.

Nikon Z30 rumours resurface – Nikon ditching 24MP sensors, possible announcement this month

It’s been a while since we heard anything about the hypothetical Nikon Z30 – an entry-level camera in Nikon’s Z mirrorless lineup to replace the popular Nikon D3x00 series DSLRs. In fact, it’s been over a year, with the N2016 code – presumed to be the Z30 at the time but turned out to be the Z fc (thanks enchalta!) – being discovered in April of 2021. It was expected that the Z30 would be announced last May, but that date has long since passed.

Now, though, new rumours suggest that we might be getting closer to a release – although they still don’t know exactly when. With the push that other companies seem to have been making for APS-C lately, with two new APS-C RF cameras from Canon and three lenses from Sony (with another camera rumoured), it’s about time for Nikon to add more APS-C variety now they’ve had a few years to flesh out their full-frame lineup.

Given all the Nikon DSLR gear being killed off lately, it’s no secret that Nikon is now fully committed to mirrorless. Well, as fully committed as Nikon commits to anything. But we know there’s an entry-level Nikon Z30 on the way and it might be getting announced in as little as a couple of weeks from now.

According to a report from Nikon Rumors, there’s a Nikon event scheduled in Asia for the first week in June. There’s no word yet on whether this will be a public announcement of a new product, a press briefing or simply an internal Nikon briefing about upcoming products to be announced later. But, there’s an event of some kind.

New camera registration suggests compact Nikon Z30 mirrorless camera release imminent

The Nikon Z30 has been long-awaited as an entry-level camera in Nikon’s mirrorless lineup. Thanks to the release of the DX-format Nikon Z50, we know that Nikon isn’t afraid of sharing its Z mount between formats. The Z50 essentially replaced the old D5x00 series bodies in Nikon’s DSLR lineup, but what about the D3x00 series?

Well, that’s where the hypothetical Z30 would step in. And a new camera registration spotted by Nokishita, suggests that the Nikon Z30 camera announcement may be coming very soon. The filing in Taiwan doesn’t explicitly name the camera s the Nikon Z30, giving it the codename “N2016”, but I think it’s unlikely that we’d see a Nikon Z50 II already.
