At trade show Salon de la photo 2018 in Paris, French photography blog Mizuwari got to sit down with Nikon France Director of Marketing and Communication, Nicolas Gillet to talk about the new Nikon mirrorless cameras.

Mizuwari transcribed the interview, where they talk about the f/1.4 limitation of the Nikon F mount, and how the new Z mount overcomes this, offering a theoretical new limit of f/0.65 with autofocus capability.

August and September have been pretty exciting as far as gear announcements go. Nikon Z7 and Z6 are out, along with the lenses and adapter. Canon’s full-frame-mirrorless system has also been launched, and Fujifilm X-T3 is out, too. In this video, Mark Denney discusses three very important things to consider before you make the final decision. Because, when you take everything into consideration – you may not need to buy the new gear after all.

There’s been quite a lot of discussion regarding Nikon’s new Z mount ever since the patent was first spotted. Nikon, too, has made quite the fuss over it in the recent Nikon Z6 & Z7 mirrorless camera announcements. Now, it seems that we have Atsushi Suzuki, an actual Nikon optical engineer, to explain it to us.

So, why did Nikon introduce a new mount for their mirrorless cameras? Well, in the video, Atsushi goes into quite some technical detail. But to really know what’s going on, it helps to understand this stuff.

You may love or hate the features of the new Nikon Z7, but it seems that many photographers want to get their hands on it as soon as possible. As a result, the company has received so many preorders, that it recently issued an apology to customers that the camera is selling so fast. Because of so many preorders, many photographers won’t be able to get their camera on 27 September, when it was supposed to start shipping.

We didn’t think the Nikon Nikkor Z 58mm f/0.95 S Noct would be announced today with the new Nikon Z6 & Z7, but now we know for sure. Even though Nikon did announce some new lenses today, the 58mm f/0.95 was not amongst them. What Nikon has announced, though, is that they’re working on it. But they’ve announced it with more certainty than those early Nikon mirrorless camera teases.

It wasn’t much of a surprise that Nikon would announce new lenses to go along with the new Z6 & Z7 mirrorless cameras. Even if there hadn’t been plenty of rumours about new glass, it was pretty much a given. So, we have the new Nikkor Z 35mm f/1.8 S, Nikkor Z 50mm f/1.8 S and Nikkor Z 24-70mm f/4 S lenses.
