A new teaser released by Nikon for their new mirrorless camera suggests that they might be ditching the DSLR completely. It also offers a bit better look at the body & lens mount. It also suggests that the new mirrorless camera could be aimed squarely at professional users – which would make a lot of sense.
Nikon will officially announce their new mirrorless camera on August 23rd
Ok, I get it, I’m a Nikon shooter. A decent Nikon mirrorless camera (finally) is a big deal. But I am starting to get a little sick of the hype already. We’ve had rumours, leaks, a teaser and a sort-of-not-really-an-announcement announcement.
Well, now, we’ve got an official announcement letting us know when there’ll be an official announcement. The rumoured date of August 23rd is now set in stone, according to an email I received from Nikon this morning. At midnight Eastern, 9pm Pacific, or a crazy 5am here in the UK, we’ll finally hear what Nikon have to offer.
Nikon officially announces the development of full frame mirrorless camera and lenses
Ok, so round one of the Nikon full frame mirrorless rumours ends. It’s now time for round two to begin, as Nikon officially announces the development of a new Nikon full frame mirrorless camera.
Did you spot what I said there? “Camera” not “cameras”. This doesn’t discount the possibility of a second rumoured camera, or even an APS-C mirrorless, but they’re only officially confirming one body for now – and they haven’t said whether it’s the rumoured 24-25MP or 48MP camera.
These are the leaked photos of Nikon mirrorless camera; the announcement to come on August 23
It’s been only a day since Nikon published a teaser video for the new full frame mirrorless camera, and now there’s something more to build up the excitement. Four photos of the upcoming camera have leaked, as well as the announcement date.
The first teaser video for Nikon mirrorless camera has been published
Now that we know for sure that Nikon is joining the mirrorless party with new full frame cameras, we anxiously wait for news, specs and images. And Nikon has just announced a teaser video to reveal just a bit more about their upcoming full frame mirrorless camera.
Nikon 1 mirrorless cameras have officially been discontinued
Nikon’s new mirrorless will actually be two new mirrorless cameras
There have been plenty of assumptions, rumors and finally a confirmation that Nikon is developing a mirrorless camera. Judging from the latest report, it seems like there will be not one, but two mirrorless cameras announced. And the first set of specs for them has just leaked online.
New “NOCT” trademark hints at upcoming Nikon mirrorless low light performance
It seems like Nikon might actually be making an effort with their new mirrorless offering, after all. A derivative of Nox, Latin for “night”, NOCT is Nikon’s latest trademark. And while the registration doesn’t specifically state that it is for a mirrorless system, its uses include cameras, lenses and “mount adapters for lenses”.
Filed on May 18th, the trademark application is currently under examination. As well as the nocturnal nature of the new trademark, you might remember that Nikon filed patents for 52mm f/0.9 and 36mm f/1.2 full frame mirrorless lenses last year. And the last time the “Noct” name was used was for Nikon’s Noct-Nikkor 58mm f/1.2 Ai-S.
Nikon mirrorless rumoured to have new 16mm flange distance “Z-mount” lens mount
The word from CES 2018 is that Nikon’s upcoming mirrorless will have an entirely new lens mount. At least according to Nikon Rumors. Despite simply being a rumour, I can’t believe that this isn’t true. At least the technical specifications, if not the name, which NR suggest may simply be a working title for the new system. It just makes no sense for Nikon to keep the current F-mount system in a new mirrorless design, even if it is the same full frame as their DSLRs.
Nikon to close Chinese factory as compact camera market continues to shrink
It’s not much of a surprise that the compact camera market is getting a little more “compact”. It’s been coming for years. Global compact camera sales are down to less than a tenth of their peak. And it’s all thanks to smartphones. The cameras we carry with us all day, every day.
While smartphones aren’t killing DSLR sales, the opposite, in fact, they are destroying compacts. The Nikkei reports that Nikon are now closing one of their factories in China. A factory which primarily manufactures their entry level compacts and SLR lenses.
