The Nikon D610 and D810 are officially listed as discontinued

According to the Nikon Japan website, both the Nikon D610 and Nikon D810 DSLRs have now been officially moved over to the discontinued list. Rumours of the D610 not seeing a replacement model go back as far as last December, and with it being added to the discontinued list now without a new model being announced, it looks like this is the end of the line for the D6x0 series bodies.

The Nikon D810 has also been discontinued, which isn’t much of a surprise. While the D810 is still a pretty formidable camera, many have switched the D850 or the Z7 (essentially a mirrorless continuation of that line), so dropping it is pretty logical in this case.

“Nikon’s dropping 5 lines of SLRs” says DPReview’s Chris Nichols

During the recent first look video for the Canon EOS 90D and Canon EOS M6 Mark II over on DPReview, Chris Nichols let slip at around 6:45 in the video that Nikon is “dropping 5 lines of [D]SLRs”. This seems to suggest that Nikon believes that DSLRs are, for the most part, well and truly dead.

We already knew at the beginning of July that there were rumours Nikon was possibly planning to drop the D3x00 series, the D50xx series and that there would be no follow up to the D500. But now it appears two more lines of Nikon DSLRs are to be cancelled.

Is a full frame camera really worth it?

Since I got my Nikon D7000 camera 6 years ago I’ve used it almost everyday. That is a lot of shutter clicks, 148,558 to be exact. So it looks like I will be in the market for a new camera soon as the D7000 is only factory tested to 150,000 clicks. My dilemma is should I go full frame, or stick with my cropped frame. I keep asking myself, is a full frame camera really worth it? I took a Nikon full frame D610 and a Nikon cropped frame D7100 on a test drive around Paris to see the real world differences.

Disappointed With Your D600? Nikon Will Replace It To A New D610 For Free

It seems that Nikon is finally ending the fiasco they had with the D600 once and for all. As you may recall, the D600 suffered a terminal illness which caused dust (or oil) spots to accumulate on its sensor. At first Nikon denied, than offered a free repair, and finally they were ordered to stop selling the camera altogether and brought on the D610 which solved the issue.

If you spent $1,800 on this camera this must have been a frustrating 2 years for you. Now Nikon is ending this marketing disaster once and for all and doing it quite well (although pretty late).

People participating the D600 class action lawsuit got this letter (cited by Fred Miranda user danh920) that explains how to replace the camera with a brand new D610.
