When photographers think of my country they think of windmills, Amsterdam and tulips. These are generally the most photographed subjects in the Netherlands. What they don’t know is that my country turns purple in August. It usually starts mid or early Augusts and ends till the end of August. It turns a lot of areas completely purple.

What am I talking about? The heather plants. Compare it to the France Lavender fields that start a couple of weeks earlier in July. The purple heather fields in the Netherlands are a dream for any landscape photographer. Combine them with mist and you’ve got yourself a dreamscape that looks to be coming straight out of a fairytale. The misty mornings usually start in August also, when it gets cold at night and warm during the day. However, a Dutch photographer by the name of Bart Erkamp is on a mission to show the other side of pole dancing.

You see, pole dancing isn’t just something found in sketchy clubs on the outskirts of town, it’s also a the basis of a rapidly growing fitness movement. In fact, gyms all around the globe are beginning to offer pole dancing classes as a legitimate way to get fit–no sultriness required. There’s classes for men, women, children–people from all walks of life are invited to get in on the fun. There’s also a world championship and governing body, the International Pole Sports Federation, that is trying their darnedest to make pole dancing an Olympic sport.[Read More…]

Roeselien Raimond, a Dutch photographer and artist, has an eye for wildlife photography of all sorts and her series of fox photos is pretty hard not to fall in love with. When her previous occupation of art therapist inspired her to focus more on her creative side, she shifted gears and became a professional web designer. During that time, she had an interest and practiced her hobby with a DSLR and a macro lens she picked up. However, in 2009, Raimond won a Canon 7D in a competition and quickly purchased a Canon 300mm F4.0 to accompany it. She was hooked. Since then her work has been featured in multiple publications and her fan base is growing larger by the day.[Read More…]
