This short documentary shows what it’s like to photograph a 24-hour sports car endurance race

I generally shoot on location, and those shoots often last a good 8 hours or so. When I tell people this, they typically sound shocked, wondering how a shoot can go on for so long. But 8 hours is nothing compared to what motorsport photographer Jamey Price has to deal with when shooting a 24-hour endurance sports car race.

In this 13-minute documentary, we get to take a peek inside a world where the photographer’s endurance is put to the test just as much as that of the cars. Narrated by Jamey, we see and hear about the work that goes into such an event, and how difficult it can be to keep up.

Track videographer almost taken out by tumbling race car

We all take risks for our art of some form or another. For some, that risk is getting into debt to satisfy gear lust. For others, the risks are a little more physical. And those physical risks often seem to present themselves for motor racing photographers and videographers. As this video clip just goes to show.

There’s not really any information to go along with the clip, but it appears to be a rally somewhere in Russia. Then we see Car number 50 hurtle around a corner, all four tyres off the ground, before losing control, barely missing a guy shooting video on the side lines, tumbling several times, finally landing in a ditch.

Photography at 200mph – An interview with motorsports photographer Kurt Bradley

Kurt Bradley is a former competitive driver turned motorsports photographer. He’s shot top-level international racing events such as Formula 1, MotoGP, and WEC, but also attends regional track days and car shows, plus the X-Games.

Kurt has experience with photographing the unique setting of nighttime road racing. Few races go into the night – two of the most famous are the 24 Hours of Le Mans and 24 Hours of Daytona – but the visuals are one-of-a-kind. Kurt attended Daytona this year and was able to share some his insights from the race, which he shot for Jalopnik, a popular automotive blog.

Alex Baker is a portrait and lifestyle driven photographer based in Valencia, Spain. She works on a range of projects from commercial to fine art and has had work featured in publications such as The Daily Mail, Conde Nast Traveller and El Mundo, and has exhibited work across Europe

Dave Williams is an accomplished travel photographer, writer, and best-selling author from the UK. He is also a photography educator and published Aurora expert. John Aldred is a photographer with over 20 years of experience in the portrait and commercial worlds. He is based in Scotland and has been an early adopter - and occasional beta tester - of almost every digital imaging technology in that time. As well as his creative visual work, John uses 3D printing, electronics and programming to create his own photography and filmmaking tools and consults for a number of brands across the industry.

Dunja Djudjic is a multi-talented artist based in Novi Sad, Serbia. With 15 years of experience as a photographer, she specializes in capturing the beauty of nature, travel, and fine art. In addition to her photography, Dunja also expresses her creativity through writing, embroidery, and jewelry making.
