A recent tweet from Japanese photographer Kimio Tanaka, a regular source of Ricoh/Pentax insider info, states that they have no plans to introduce a mirrorless camera in either 35mm or 645 medium formats. This time, it isn’t just a rumour leak. Tanaka says that in this case he is speaking on behalf of Ricoh and is not merely expressing an opinion.
Samsung apparently bringing back their Android-powered mirrorless cameras with 108MP “NX Ultra”

So, I just read a post over on Digital Camera World stating that Samsung is reintroducing their NX mirrorless camera series. For those that hadn’t seen them, it was an Android-powered interchangeable lens mirrorless camera system that actually looked pretty good. In fact, it was probably a little ahead of its time back when they were still releasing them. Then, pretty much overnight Samsung pulled them.
Rumours of their resurrection pop up every now and again, but they invariably turn out to be false. DCW, however, seems to be reporting this latest story with some confidence, citing “reports” (that they don’t link to) claiming it will use the 108-megapixel sensor from the Galaxy S20 Ultra. Could it be happening, or is it all just an April Fool’s Joke?
Laowa is developing six new f/0.95 lenses for Sony FE – but the first won’t be here until 2021

Laowa announced back in January that a new series of super-fast f/0.95 “Argus” lenses would be coming at some point, although there were no real clues as to what they might be. At first it was thought that they would be available for different mirrorless and DSLR systems, both full-frame and APS-C.
Fuji Addict suggested that the first might fall somewhere between 20-35mm. We still don’t know what the focal length might be, but now Sony Alpha Rumours reports that there will be six lenses coming for full-frame Sony E mount, although the first probably won’t be available until 2021.
Sigma CEO says they will focus on mirrorless lenses (pun unintended) over DSLRs

Popular lens (and camera) manufacturer Sigma has said that they are going to be giving priority to their DN line of mirrorless system lenses, going forward. A tweet posted by Sigma CEO Kazuto Yamaki confirmed this, stating that while the primary focus will be on DG DN full-frame mirrorless lenses, they will also be working on DC DN lenses for APS-C and Micro Four Thirds.

Along with a new MFT lens, Olympus has also announced the OM-D E-M1 Mark III camera. It’s a successor of the OM-D E-M1 Mark II, released in 2016. But other than improved in-body image stabilization and dedicated AF mode for the starry sky, this camera doesn’t seem to have any major improvements.
Keeping it small, using rear filters for the Sigma 14-24 f2.8 Art DG DN

A while ago Sigma joined the L mount alliance along with Panasonic and Leica. Although it wasn’t really till recently that we started to see the true results of this collaboration when Sigma released their new fp camera. They also released several “designed for mirrorless” lenses like the 14-24 f2.8 Art DG DN. Those lenses are both smaller and lighter than their DSLR counterparts.
One of the new features of the 14-24f2.8 Art DG DN lens is the built-in rear filter holder. It allows you to lock in a gel filter, which you can cut using the template provided with the lens.
This is a relatively inexpensive way to reduce the amount of light coming into the camera. I used to cut ND gels to fit into my MC-11 adaptor and while they worked, the gels could easily scratch, bend and crease, while also reducing image quality a little. I don’t know, maybe it was the particular ND gel I used.
What if you wanted something that is more durable with better optical performance, but without needing a huge 150mm filter system to attach onto the front of the lens?
