It’s going to be interesting to see who gets the most attention on August 23rd. Will it be Nikon, with their two new mirrorless cameras? Or will it be DJI, who we expect to announce a couple of new Mavic 2 drones?

DJI has just published a teaser video to its YouTube channel. The beginning shows a section of what could be one of the new Mavic 2 models, with the date at the end of the video showing… Yes, you guessed it, August 23rd. Nikon Mirrorless day (I’m calling it that, you don’t have to).

It looks like the Mavic 2 won’t be the only new version of the DJI Mavic being announced by DJI. Droning On reports that a new “Mavic Enterprise” model may be on the way, too, after posting some leaked photos. This drone seems to have various attachments that can be added to add various functionality to the drone.

A teaser image reported to have been posted by DJI, teases an event in New York on July 18th, 2018. There’s no solid information on exactly what DJI will announce, but all signs point to an announcement for a possible DJI Mavic Pro replacement with the… Yup, you guessed it, the DJI Mavic Pro II.

Some seem to think DJI may announce a Phantom 5, but with the recent Phantom 4 V2.0 announcement, I think that’s unlikely. Sure, it’s possible, but it’s unlikely. I can’t see them replacing the Mavic Air this quickly, and while the Spark could probably do with a refresh, too, I do think a Mavic II is most likely – assuming it’s a drone at all.

DJI Mavic Pro 2 may be imminent – Phantom 5 to get interchangeable lenses?

Demands on technology companies these days are pretty intense. It used to be that a company released a product, customers either loved it or hated it, and then a new model came out in 5 or so years to replace it. Today, it’s very different. No sooner had the Sony A7III been announced, for example, than wishlists appeared for a theoretical Sony A7IV. People want to see new camera kit far more often than they used to.

When it comes to drones, the “upgrade cycle” is even shorter, with people expecting new and upgraded models on an annual basis. Lately, there’ve been a number of rumours surrounding several new possible models from drone leaders DJI. The Mavic Pro 2, the Phantom 5, the Inspire 3 and a new fixed-wing drone, the DJI VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing). The “leaks” on specs so far look quite exciting, but can they really be believed?

Hot on the heels of the new DJI Mavic Air, we’re already starting to hear rumours about the Mavic Pro’s real replacement. A new Mavic Pro II. And the big news is that the sensor gets an upgrade from 2/3″ to a whole 1″ like the Phantom 4 Pro. Not only that, but there’s also a big increase in battery capacity for 35 minutes of flight time. And there’s said to be a pair of rear sensors. And according to DRN, it’s already in production.
