Lok Cheung takes a trip through the Fujifilm factory assembling the GFX100 and now-discontinued X-H1

While it might look like Lok Cheung is preparing for a viral outbreak in the image for the above video, he’s actually dressed to enter the cleanroom at Fujifilm’s Sendai factory in Japan, where they assemble the sensors for the Fujifilm GFX 100 medium format mirrorless camera.

Lok mentions in the video that this footage was shot a while ago when the Fuji X-H1 was still in production, but it still offers some fascinating insight into Fujifilm’s approach to assembling cameras, with much of the final assembly being done by hand.

The problem with variable NDs and why fixed NDs are still relevant

Variable neutral density filters are quite a wonderful thing. In theory. They let you adjust your exposure outside of the camera’s own systems as the light on your scene changes. They’re quick and convenient, and expensive if you want a good one. But are they really all that good?

Lok Cheung used variable ND filters during his tenure at Digital Rev. He was typically the one manning the camera filming Kai. But since he’s gone solo, he’s noticed that they’re not really as practical as he’d like. Nor do they really offer the quality that one needs today. In this video, he explains why variable NDs just don’t hold up to the job, and why fixed NDs reign supreme.

If you ever wanted to know how to upset a photographer, here’s a few ways

There are some things that one just shouldn’t do or say to a photographer. Doing so is bound to upset them. Sometimes it’s just that they don’t know any better, but often it’s a lack of simple common decency.

In this video from Lok Cheung, we see some absolutely perfect examples of how to not act around a photographer. Lok is joined by his good buddy Warren Ng, acting as our antagonist in this little story. If I didn’t know he was just pretending, I might have liked him a little less after watching this.

Feiyu’s G5 is the first handheld motorised gimbal to feature weather proofing

Handheld motorised gimbals are fantastic pieces of kit. Whether it’s for an action camera, phone, DSLR or even a RED camera, they do their job extremely well. One thing that’s been an issue for a lot of people so far, though, is that they’re not really “all weather”. Even though your phone or camera might be in some kind of waterproof housing, trying to operate a gimbal in the rain isn’t exactly the best idea.

This has been a bit of an issue for me, personally, too. Living in the almost perpetually wet UK, I am at the mercy of the weather when I want to use mine outdoors. Feiyu are starting to solve this problem with the release of the new Feiyu G5 3-axis handheld gimbal for action cameras. Designed specifically for the GoPro Hero5, which also features built in weather proofing, it will also work with other action cameras, too.
