The original Litra Torch was a very decent little light. Aimed at action and adventure action camera shooters, it offered a lot of punch for its small size. Now, Litra is back with the new Litra Torch 2.0, offering more LEDs, improved CRI and better waterproofing. DIYP caught up with Litra at NAB 2019 to find out more.
First hands on impressions of the new Litra Torch 2.0
At CES today Litra announced their new light, the Litra Torch 2.0 (Amazon). We were lucky enough to get our hands on one of these lights and made a quick comparison to the original Litra Torch. We did an in-depth durability test to the original Torch and were quite happy. If you are considering the Torch for photography or video, you should consider an upgrade. Here is why:
The Moin L1 is a new rugged action light that costs only $59
Action lights are strange little things. When I first saw them, when the Lume Cube was announced, I thought they looked pretty useless. A light that small, how powerful can they be, really? Then I got a Litra Torch, and I was rather shocked at just how good these little lights are. Even though I’m not always using it for video, it’s a very handy bright little general purpose utility light, too.
But now the Litra Torch vs Lume Cube battle has a new contender; the Mirfak Moin L1. It’s of a similar size and form factor to the others, but it has a few differences. It’s bicolour and it has a magnetic power connector for charging. The video above is a review of the light from photo & video tech reviewer Scott Dumas.
How to light a photo with 100 mini LED action lights
The Lume Cube, Litra Torch and similar lights have become quite popular since they first appeared. Powerful little LED lights that are just as tough and rugged as the action cameras they’re designed to be used with. But that’s not all they’re good for. Light is light, as they say, and you can use small lights for all kinds of uses.
Take this video, for example. In it, Jay P Morgan of The Slanted Lens uses 100 Lume Cubes to light up three different sets. And while it may sound complicated the same principles apply whether you’re using a hundred lights or just one.
Action light Death Match: Lume Cube vs. Litra Torch
Face it, if you want an action-light (those small on-your-motorcycle cube lights), there are two options in the market: the Lume Cube (Amazon, B&H) and the Litra Torch (Amazon, B&H). They are both great lights if you are doing any sorts of action sports photography, they are compact, light, have some resistance to the elements and hold a few hours if you avoid max power. But which is the better light? Which of those light will give you the most bang for your buck? we set out to find out and ran the two lights through a battery of (sometimes ridiculous) tests.
