This amazing and surreal short film was shot entirely using practical effects

Forever is the short film creation of German filmmaker Nicolas Arnold. He was commissioned in July 2018 to create a “Motion Response” for Australia’s upcoming Pause Fest 2019 tackling them theme “The Future is Intimate”. Four months later he’d completed the absolute eye candy you see above.

Already a very impressive film, I was blown away when I saw just how much of this was created in-camera and that it isn’t just some CG special effects reel. Nicolas posted a behind the scenes video showing some of his design and practical effects processes and it’s just as amazing as the film itself.

They melted an espresso machine with 60,000 Watts of light for this photo & video shoot

Shooting liquids for commercial clients is no easy task. There’s a lot of experimentation and learning involved to build the skills to get it right. And when mastered, it becomes an art form all of its own.

In this behind the scenes documentary by Praemi we see photographer Bill Cahill shooting an ad campaign for Peet’s Coffees 50th anniversary. Bill makes both stills as well as video as part of the campaign. At one point, he requires 60,000 watts of Mole-Richardson lighting for a slow motion sequence, which results in a melted espresso machine.

This photographer turns 30ft waves into liquid mountains

Photographing water and waves can be one of the most fun and challenging subjects a photographer can try. It’s difficult to really get that size and power across in photographs. It’s often cold, windy, and fraught with all kinds of challenges. For Canadian photographer, Dave Sandford, though, it’s worth the effort.

In this video posted by Great Big Story, we’re taken on a journey with Dave to Lake Erie, where he turns 30ft (9m) high waves into liquid mountains. This is a small segment of Episode 8 from The Weather Channel’s That’s Amazing series.

Innovative Ad Campaign Introduces Borescope Camera Tech To Commercial Photography

Innovation plays a large part in creativity and vice versa. When photographers are able to find the perfect balance of those two things, awesome ideas using unusual methods are created. Such is the case when Sedley Place was tasked with creating an innovative ad campaign for Diageo, the parent company of Smirnoff and Guinness. They decided on a “Liquid Landscape” theme, which would feature slow motion close up shots of frosty glasses of beer and swirling mixed drinks.

To be able to maintain a large depth of field while shooting moving liquids at macro ratios, the creators came up with an unorthodox equipment setup to capture extreme close-ups of frosty glasses of beer and mixed drinks. Using for a borescope camera, a type of camera used almost exclusively in the biological and science photography realms, the photographers were able to capture the mouth watering footage with very little loss of detail.
