The Litepanels Gemini 2×1 announced in 2017 received a very warm reception on its release. Those who have purchased and use them absolutely love them. But sometimes you need something a little smaller, so Litepanels announced the Gemini 1×1 earlier this year. We heard that Litepanels were going to be at IBC 2019, so we decided to swing by the stand to find out more about them and what they can do.
Cheap light panels and cheap softboxes to go along are a lifesaver when you’re on a tight budget. But softbox with a spongy strap can’t be attached quickly (especially if you’re clumsy). Also, it won’t stay in place when you attach it to the LED panel. This video by Macroscope Pictures will show you how to solve this problem in less than $3 and upgrade your softbox for any of your “run and gun” projects.
We’ve shown you a few different DIY LED light panels before, but technology and techniques evolve. LEDs are always coming out that are better, cheaper, brighter and with higher CRI than the previous generation. Photographers and videographers are now able to more easily address their needs with DIY lighting options, and often at a much lower cost than the commercially available options.
In this video from Makify, Vinny walks us through the construction of this super bright LED Light Panel. It has high CRI LEDs and a “video-safe dimmer”. This dimmer is “video-safe” because it allows you to increase and decrease the brightness of the light while filming without flicker.
