Samyang’s new online lens simulator lets you try out 10-300mm f/1.2-36 lenses on FF, APS-C and MFT

Samyang has launched a new lens simulator on the Samyang website. Its purpose, as one would suggest, is a way for potential lens buyers to check out how a particular focal length and aperture of a given lens might work on their own camera.

It offers a wide range of focal lengths from an ultra-wide 10mm all the way up to 300mm as well as apertures ranging from f/1.2 to f/32. It also covers three different sensor sizes of full-frame, a 1.5x APS-C crop (sorry, Canon!) and 2x Micro Four Thirds. Gear more for photographing portraits, you can even change the focus distance of your subject.

Canon’s new VR simulator lets you try out bodies and lenses before you buy

You’re not really getting to test out those bodies and lenses, of course, but it’s an evolution of the simulators already available on the web. They lets users see the different field of view at different focal lengths on different sized sensors. The simulators also allow you to see some real-time feedback on how the settings you choose will affect the shot.

Canon have now announced a new VR camera simulator for Oculus Rift. Such tools have been around on the web for a long time. VR does offer the advantage of slightly more realism, though. You can actually turn and look around the scene to find a composition you like. You can even teleport around the scene and see it from a different angle completely. That’s much better than the sets of pre-shot static images you see on web simulators.

Use Nikon’s Lens Simulator to Pick Your Next Lens (Non-Nikon Shooters Too!)

People often know they need a longer lens but don’t know just how long is long enough, or need a wider lens but have no idea if the extra 2mm on the wide end of the 14-24mm are worth $550 more than the 16-35mm.

Nikon’s lens simulator is a great resource for anyone debating which focal length they need or how various focal lengths compare to each other.

The simulator starts at 14mm and zooms all the way in to 800mm for FX format lenses and 10mm to 300mm for DX lenses, showing the resulting angle of view at any given time.

Camera wise you can select between FX (full frame), DX (APS-C) and CX (mirrorless) format models, going back about 6 years and up until Nikon’s newest models.

This simulator can be just as helpful for Canon, Sony, Olympus and any other brand users. All you have to do is take into account the slightly different crop factor.
