Rode Wireless ME FCC filing shows up online - Is Rode working on a new low budget wireless mic?

It looks like Rode has a low-budget wireless mic kit coming, perhaps for those that can’t justify the expense of the Wireless GO II. A filing with the FCC was recently published for a Rode Wireless ME wireless mic transmitter. There isn’t a massive detail about its feature set, it largely just covers its wireless capabilities, but what can we guess from this?

The “Wireless ME” name suggests a lower budget alternative to the Wireless GO II, presumably to compete with other similar products that are being launched by other brands, such as Hollyland, Godox, and SmallRig. It looks like it’s a single wireless lav kit aimed at solo vloggers that only need to hear themselves and are happy to record only in-camera (or on their smartphone).

Joby offers the Wavo AIR, Godox offers the MoveLink (reviewed here), and Sennheiser offers the XSW-D, as just a few examples. They all fall around a similar price point, and all offer great sound in a small package. Let’s get straight into the battle!

Lav mics have been around for years. Virtually all of us who shoot video have used them at some point or another. But they’re annoying. You have to deal with clips that often puncture or scrunch up your clothes – which isn’t a great look for the camera. But the CharisMic thinks it’s solved the solution through the use of magnets.

It’ a neat solution that allows you to clip a microphone either on top of underneath your clothing, and when it’s underneath the magnet is hidden under one of several cute little badges. It’s already up on Kickstarter, where it’s already gone way past its goal with two weeks still to go and pledges starting at $77.
