In early 2019, Kodak announced the comeback of Ektachrome 120 roll film and large format sheet film. After keeping us waiting for almost a year, it seems that we’re now only days away from the official launch. According to Kodak, the Ektachrome 120mm and 4×5 film will be available to order worldwide within the next ten days.
Medium format Kodak Ektachrome 120 rolls to start trials next month
Introduced last year, Kodak Ektachrome 35mm is based on the old Kodak Ektachrome E100G E6 slide film that was made up until 2012. A lot of people were eager to check out the newly produced rolls, and when it was announced at the beginning of this year that it would be coming in 120 roll medium format, as well, a lot of people got very excited.
Now, Kodak has posted a status update via Instagram saying that they will be running a “coating trial” of the medium format version in “late July”.

But now, it’s also coming to 120 roll film as well as large format sheet film.
Drum Scanned – A Review of 35mm Kodak E100
To those who follow my work closely, you may know that I consider myself a large format photographer. I will photograph with a medium format camera, particularly when I’m trying to save weight on a backpacking trip or save time when I’m teaching a photography workshop, but 35mm has been somewhat shunned in my arsenal, being a format I deemed too small to be used effectively for my work.

Photographer Peter Guttman was lucky to be one of the few beta testers of the film, and he kindly shared with DIYP some of the images he took. And just as I imagined – they’re gorgeous.

It may be a little later than that announcement suggested, but Kodak has now finally released the first test shots from the new Ektachrome film. And it looks wonderful.
