Ektachrome 120 and 4×5 formats will be available in the next ten days, Kodak confirms

In early 2019, Kodak announced the comeback of Ektachrome 120 roll film and large format sheet film. After keeping us waiting for almost a year, it seems that we’re now only days away from the official launch. According to Kodak, the Ektachrome 120mm and 4×5 film will be available to order worldwide within the next ten days.

Medium format Kodak Ektachrome 120 rolls to start trials next month

Introduced last year, Kodak Ektachrome 35mm is based on the old Kodak Ektachrome E100G E6 slide film that was made up until 2012. A lot of people were eager to check out the newly produced rolls, and when it was announced at the beginning of this year that it would be coming in 120 roll medium format, as well, a lot of people got very excited.

Now, Kodak has posted a status update via Instagram saying that they will be running a “coating trial” of the medium format version in “late July”.

The news of Ektachrome’s triumphant return to the world was a big deal when it was first announced. One of the many historic flavours of film that we thought had disappeared from our lives forever was coming back. It’s two years since Kodak Alaris told us Ektachrome would be coming back to 35mm. But now, it’s also coming to 120 roll film as well as large format sheet film.

To those who follow my work closely, you may know that I consider myself a large format photographer. I will photograph with a medium format camera, particularly when I’m trying to save weight on a backpacking trip or save time when I’m teaching a photography workshop, but 35mm has been somewhat shunned in my arsenal, being a format I deemed too small to be used effectively for my work.

The Kodak Ektachrome E100 film is finally being shipped to distributors worldwide, and some of us can’t wait to get our hands on a few rolls of it. Photographer Peter Guttman was lucky to be one of the few beta testers of the film, and he kindly shared with DIYP some of the images he took. And just as I imagined – they’re gorgeous.

The return of Ektachrome has been getting many film photographers very excited. Announced at CES in January last year, Kodak went on to commit to a launch in 2018. It may be a little later than that announcement suggested, but Kodak has now finally released the first test shots from the new Ektachrome film. And it looks wonderful.

Kodak bringing back Ektachrome film back to market in 2018

We have reported before that Kodak could bring their Ektachrome film back this year. As the end of 2017 approaches, we’re anxious to hear the news regarding this launch. According to a comment they posted on Twitter, they’ll be officially launching a limited amount of the film at the beginning of 2018.

Kodak brings back the legendary Ektachrome film

Kodak issued wonderful news at CES 2017. To the joy of all film lovers, they are bringing back the legendary Ektachrome Still Film. The company plans to reformulate and produce the Ektachrome 135 still frame. In late 2017, the film will be back on the market. Also, Kodak is re-launching Ektachrome Super 8 film to go along their recently introduced Super 8 movie camera. So, both photographers and filmmakers have something to look forward to!
