Federal authorities and Kentucky State Police warn of bombs in trail cameras

Well, this is messed up. A warning has been issued that IEDs have been found in Harlan County, Kentucky. The IEDs in question are hidden inside trail cameras. So far, nine such devices have been discovered. Sadly, some have already detonated, permanently injuring at least one member of the public. But officials believe there are more out there.

Outdoor Hub reported in June that cameras were being investigated. Initially suspected that the explosives were a way to deter thieves, the reality ia a little more sinister. The Lexington Herald Leader reported that after a man lost several fingers in an explosion, police arrested Mark Sawaf after materials connected to the IEDs were found in his trash. A note found amongst evidence found at the home suggests he didn’t want to just deter thieves, but maim or even kill them.

Judge Rules it Legal to Shoot Down Privacy-Invading Drones

Several months ago we reported that William Merideth of Kentucky was arrested and charged with first degree wanton endangerment and criminal mischief after firing his neighbor’s drone out of the sky with a shotgun.

Based on the fact that the drone was shot over Merideth’s property and that eyewitnesses said the drone was flying low, a Bullitt County District Court judge decided to dismiss all charges against him.

So can anyone go shooting drones from now on?

Kentucky Man Who Shot Drone Out Of The Sky With Shotgun Arrested; Faces Two Felony Charges

On July 26, 2015, William H. Merideth was enjoying the afternoon with his daughters in the backyard of his Hillview, Kentucky home when they noticed a drone flying around the neighborhood. When the drone finally made it’s way over Merideth’s property, he was armed and ready to shoot the device out of the sky, which he did with a shotgun he procured from his house as the drone was making it’s way over.

He was promptly confronted by the drone owner/operator, David Boggs, who ended up calling the police on Merideth. Merideth was arrested and charged with first degree wanton endangerment and criminal mischief for firing a shotgun into the air. He was released the following day.[Read More…]

Dunja Djudjic is a multi-talented artist based in Novi Sad, Serbia. With 15 years of experience as a photographer, she specializes in capturing the beauty of nature, travel, and fine art.
