DALL-E will now let you ‘imagine’ beyond the borders of an image

Did you ever wonder where the Girl with a Pearl Earring might have been when Vermeer ‘captured’ her in his famous masterpiece? Well, now text-to-image AI DALL-E has announced that it will let users extend their creativity beyond the borders of an image by using outpainting.

The example given shows Vermeer’s masterpiece The Girl with a Pearl Earring standing in an old-fashioned kitchen. The kitchen is depicted in a similar painted style to the original and preserves the same tones and lighting. All in all, it’s pretty impressive.

Johannes Vermeer’s Girl with the Pearl Earring is one of the most famous paintings in the world. If you’ve always wanted to see it, you can visit the Mauritshuis museum in the Hag, the Netherlands. But the latest project from Hirox Europe lets you see the famous painting in a whole new way, without leaving your home. They created a 10-billion-pixel panorama that lets you zoom all the way in and explore the panting’s details, cracks, and secrets.

Johannes Vermeer – A Photographer from 350 years ago

350 years ago, Johannes Vermeer once painted a piece (pictured above) called The Music Lesson. What you’re looking at is something many people have considered impossible up to today; the light that shines through the windows in the painting is painted with exactly the same color that it has in real life when viewed through a projected image. It wasn’t being painted using a normal vision – it was being painted like it was a hand-made photograph. While many artists were indeed famous for implementing realism into their work even centuries ago, a painting this photorealistic has been though impossible to achieve up to even today. But for some reason, a painting like that exists, and Tim Jenison is a man who had a drive to find out how that was possible.

Alex Baker is a portrait and lifestyle driven photographer based in Valencia, Spain. She works on a range of projects from commercial to fine art and has had work featured in publications such as The Daily Mail, Conde Nast Traveller and El Mundo, and has exhibited work across Europe

Dave Williams is an accomplished travel photographer, writer, and best-selling author from the UK. He is also a photography educator and published Aurora expert. Dave has traveled extensively in recent years, capturing stunning images from around the world in a modified van. His work has been featured in various publications and he has worked with notable brands such as Skoda, EE, Boeing, Huawei, Microsoft, BMW, Conde Nast, Electronic Arts, Discovery, BBC, The Guardian, ESPN, NBC, and many others.

John Aldred is a photographer with over 20 years of experience in the portrait and commercial worlds. He is based in Scotland and has been an early adopter - and occasional beta tester - of almost every digital imaging technology in that time. As well as his creative visual work, John uses 3D printing, electronics and programming to create his own photography and filmmaking tools and consults for a number of brands across the industry.

Dunja Djudjic is a multi-talented artist based in Novi Sad, Serbia. With 15 years of experience as a photographer, she specializes in capturing the beauty of nature, travel, and fine art. In addition to her photography, Dunja also expresses her creativity through writing, embroidery, and jewelry making.
