When you start vlogging, one of the most difficult things to get used to is actually filming yourself. It’s a little ironic as it’s kind of the whole point but it presents unique challenges that you don’t usually think about when filming or photographing somebody else. Or rather, you think more about them when you’re filming somebody else but you’re on autopilot. When you’re filming yourself, you just forget they’re a thing.

It’s easy to figure out why, though. It’s an unusual workflow and those autopilot processes just don’t enter your mind. We’ve got too much on our minds without having to worry about all that stuff. But it’s stuff you need to worry about. So, here’s Jeven Dovey breaking down the five main topics you’ll want to think about when filming yourself on location.

At some point, everybody who’s flown a drone was a beginner. And beginners are picking up a drone for the first time every single day. Maybe you’ve just got your first. Maybe it’s the DJI Mini 3 Pro featured in these videos from Jeven Dovey and Jake Sloan where they go through thirty of the biggest mistakes drone pilots make – particularly new ones – when it comes to getting into the air for the first time.

Even if you’ve been at it for a little while, there are still mistakes you’re probably making when it comes to flying your drone. In a list this big, it’s almost a certainty and I’m definitely guilty of a couple of them myself. The 30 tips are split up across the two videos from Deven and Jake, so be sure to watch both to make sure you don’t miss anything. You might not even realise you’re doing some of this!

Comparing the DJI Mavic 3 against the $12,000 Sony AirPeak drone

Although the Sony AirPeak is no longer a big secret, there still isn’t really a massive amount of information out there on how it actually performs in the real world. This isn’t really all that surprising, as $12,000 drones (plus camera and lens) aren’t exactly all that popular or common amongst most drone pilots. But in this video, Jeven Dovey gets together with Sony creator Craig Coker to talk about the Sony AirPeak drone’s capabilities.

But just talking about things like this doesn’t really do much good unless you can compare it to the types of drones that mere mortals like most of us might use. So, he puts it up against the DJI Mavic 3, which by many people’s standards is a pretty advanced and expensive drone, to see how the two compare. Looking at it side-by-side with the AirPeak, though, it’s kind of a toy. An impressive toy, but a toy nonetheless.

No matter how long we’ve been flying drones or how much experience we have, there always seems to be more ways to improve with new techniques to learn, refine or build upon. And with that in mind, YouTuber and filmmaker Jeven Dovey has put together this fantastic video showing off 50 of his top drone tips for both beginners and pros.

And it’s not all about flying technique, either. Some of the 31-minute video is simply about workflow and planning to make sure you’re safe and legal. But there are some great drone moves and shot ideas in there, too to help ensure that you come home with the best footage possible.

With the gift-giving season upon us, a lot of people are bound to be getting new drones in the not-too-distant future. Many of these drones will be received by people who’ve never flown a drone before. Quite a few of them may not still have a working drone by the end of the day. So it’s good to get yourself a little educated first, before you kill your shiny new, potentially expensive, toy.

In this video, Jeven Dovey and Aldryn Estacio from FlytPath go through ten of the biggest mistakes they see new drone pilots making, and some they’ve made themselves. Some of the items on the list are common sense once you’ve got the benefit of hindsight, while some are just good practice so you’re not disappointed with your shots.

The problem with visiting popular tourist destinations is, obviously, other tourists. Anywhere you go that’s pretty and popular is flooded by a stream of other people, too. They’re in your shots and you’re in theirs. There are a couple of ways to get rid of them in post for both stills and video, but they take a lot of extra time.

What if you could do it in-camera? Avoid the other tourists completely? Well, in this video from travel filmmaker Jeven Dovey, you’re going to learn how to do exactly that. It might take you a little longer to get some shots, and you may have to change your approach, but it’s quite easy to make a busy location look empty.
