NASA recently shared James Webb telescope’s capture of a super-rare supernova prelude. It’s one of the telescope’s first observations, and although it shows the “death” of a star, it helps astronomers learn about new beginnings.

This image doesn’t only show something rarely seen and beautiful to look at. As NASA explains, the cosmic dust forming in turbulent nebulas like this is composed of the heavy-element building blocks of the modern universe, including life on Earth.

NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope has opened new possibilities for space observation. Thanks to its infrared cameras, it can see further and observe more details than its predecessor, the Hubble.

The latest observations revealed some previously unknown details of the Southern Ring Nebula, some 2,000 light-years away from Earth in the constellation Vela. And thanks to the new infrared images and existing data from ESA’s Gaia observatory, researchers were able to precisely pinpoint the mass of the central star before the nebula was created.

Pillars of Creation is certainly one of the most iconic space photos we know. Originally shot by Hubble in 1995, it was reshot 20 years later, and seven more years later with NASA’s brand new tool, James Webb Space Telescope, or JWST for short.

In its most recent photo, JWST brings us an entirely new look at the famous gas and dust pillars. Thanks to its infrared cameras, we get to see this star-forming region with details we’ve never seen before.

It’s so exciting to see the beginning of something new and beautiful. Thanks to NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope, we can now see the once-hidden features of the birth of a new star. How exciting is that?

Webb’s near-infrared camera captured the protostar within the dark cloud L1527. It looks like a fiery cosmic hourglass, and it’s absolutely magical.

NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope recently captured a remarkable image of a rare sight. It immediately sparked my imagination and reminded me that we’re connected to our universe in all sorts of ways.

The latest JWST image shows two stars “dancing,” forming trails around them. There are at least 17 concentric dust rings around the pair, and they are surprisingly alike human fingerprints.

NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope has sent back its first image of Neptune and it’s remarkable in more than one aspect. First of all, it’s the clearest view of the ice giant in more than 30 years. And second, Webb’s image managed to reveal the distant planet’s delicate rings, something that’s definitely not an everyday sight.

Back in July, James Webb Space Telescope’s first photos were released. And so far, we all know that they look absolutely stunning. But how do they sound? Yes, pictures can have a sound, and it’s all thanks to sonification. NASA turned Webb’s first photos into music, and here’s what it sounds when pictures “sing” to you.

Thanks to its infrared vision, James Webb Space Telescope can pierce through dust clouds and see further than any telescope has ever seen. As you may have read, it can take photos of the universe as it was over 13 billion years ago. But how far is that exactly? How far can Webb’s infrared camera see?

To help you put things into perspective, NASA has released a video that shows a fraction of Webb’s capabilities. It zooms all the way to the Cartwheel Galaxy, a gorgeous photo that the telescope recently took.
